Abandoned WP Apps

That assumption doesn't make sense. Open your browser and navigate to the app marketplace for all three mobile platforms - iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

Now, search for Shazam on all three. What kind of date is listed for the app? The date that the very first version of the app was released? Nope. It's the "last update" date. Why? Because that's what the average customer cares about. They want to know if the developer is continually making updates to the app or if they just slapped it up there a couple years ago and never looked back.

As for the Weather Channel example you mentioned, I would say it's more likely that Microsoft simply isn't updating the "Last update" field automatically/consistently. I'm pretty sure they know what "Last update" means.

In any event, it's pretty well known that the Windows Phone platform has a problem with many developers not continually supporting their apps. The point of my post is to see what is being done about it, not to debate whether the problem exists. It clearly does.

In your first paragraph you claim that dates listed are "last update".

However, you then state that Microsoft doesn't update "last update".

I offered concrete evidence that the Weather Channel app has indeed been updated, despite the fact that the date has not been changed in Marketplace.

What do you expect me to do: install every app you are interested in finding out if it were updated?

I do not use Shazam, so I do not know if it got any updates. However, it is unreasonable for you to expect posters here to download and install apps just to tell you when the apps get updated.

I can also confirm The Weather Chanel app was updated lately , i remember updating it not long ago. and I've been using it sints day 1!

regarding SHAZAM ,
well first its basically backed into the OS. so you don't need it.
and SECOND , it too JUST got updated or is about too:

Shazam hits 250 million users and supports TV show tagging. Windows Phone app reportedly getting an update. | wpcentral | Windows Phone News, Forums, and Reviews

lol , really? You have fact to back this up? from my experience they do decent support and most if not all major apps that get release and have bugs , normally get fixed with in weeks! if you would read the news on the front page of this site you would see that allot of it is how developers are working very hard! and if they don't , its not MS`s fault nor the WP Platform.

being late on a update compared to other OS doesn't mean they don't support it, its a question of revenue priority for the Developers ,

One last thing: Reviews on games/apps are 90% of the time inaccurate to the real value of the app. Do your self a Favour and try them for your self!

This is just a peer to peer WP help group. It's like you're demanding to know from us, what's being done about it. it's like you're getting hostile with us.

No, I said that it is more likely that Microsoft isn't consistently updating the last update field (given your Weather Channel claim) than your assumption which is that MS doesn't know what "Last update" means and is bizarrely posting the date that the original binary was posted.

And no, I don't expect you to do anything at all.

I cannot post screenshots, since Windows Phone does not have a screenshot app.

However, if I search Marketplace on my phone, not using a PC browser, the date given is the original release date. There is no "last updated" when one views apps directly in Marketplace on his phone.

The date given in Marketplace on the phone is "originally released".

Lol, where did you get the sense that I was demanding anything? I simply asked a question as many others do. If you don't know the answer, that's okay.

I encourage you and others to try hard to detach yourselves emotionally from the platform. It doesn't do anyone any good to have a knee jerk reaction to those who point out issues with it.

I see. Try opening the marketplace with the browser.

I did and answered your question. I never use the browser to download and install apps, though.

Last updated only appears in the browser. Searching directly in Marketplace via the tile on the device shows that the actual date is the original release date, not the date of the last update.

Guess what? Perception is reality.

Dude, don't even try laying that on me. I have a WP7, a Symbian^3 and an Android phone.
