Adding alias to Microsoft account

I read here in WPcentral about adding an alias to our MS account and making it our primary account. But it doesn't seems to work! I already have a live account, but i need a new outlook account for official purposes. And i want it to be my primary account. Can somebody please help me with this?!

Thanks. I really appreciate the effort you took to find this post.
But I already tried that. When trying to add an existing email address (which is mine), it shows error. Error says that its already taken.( its taken by me only )

that probably means when you created the email address, you created it as a new Microsoft account, a unique new MS ID that cannot be made an alias. When creating an alias, you have to create it using the add alias procedure under your main MS ID
