I am still sporting a Dell Venue Pro, still love this phone and its hard to give up as it's the only Windows Phone device with a portrait slider keyboard which I use daily.

Anybody out there still using their DVP as their primary phone?

I just gave up my DVP for a 920. The performance & speed improvements are well with sacrificing the physical keyboard.

It will be missed...

I had been using mine for two years up to today when my Lumia 920 came in. Great phone, really sh*tty camera. Hate hate hate that camera. Other than that it was the best WP7 launch device. So strange not having the keyboard anymore and using the screen, especially with the Lumia being just as big for the most part.

I still have mine. A few issues but as loong as I have that keyboard I will work this phone until it doesn't boot, or until my upgrade. Agreed on how crapy the camera is. I read about it and thought "eh who cares. It's a phone. a camera phone shot isn't supposed to be top noch quality anyway" but then I realized it's almost unusable. Don't know how that passed quality control.

Wonder when/if DVP is going to see 7.8. ANy one hear any rumors?

Have an international 920 on pre-order right now, but just got an unlock code from Dell for it today. Wife will be receiving the DVP and I'll switch to 920. Have been weaning myself off the physical keyboard for the past month in preparation.

I use it as primary phone too. Great device - the screen is still gorgeous . Only sign of age so far - the hinge has a wee bit bit on play in it. Not as firm as before
Sent from my Dell Venue Pro using Board Express

I actually just ordered one. I'm pretty pumped about getting it. I want to use it for straight talk. I heard there was a diagnostics menu to allow MMS. I would like to know how to do that but still haven't found any posts about it

Hopefully 7.8 turns up for DVP just like Tango did. The slider portrait keyboard is the best thing its got and I remember buying the phone for the keyboard alone (and of course for the OS). Been experiencing problems lately where the phone suddenly turns off and I cannot turn it on until I reinsert the battery (strange!).

Part of me still regrets not getting one. I so miss the protrait slider form factor. Just about every phone I owned since I moved away from my original RAZR flip phone was a slider until my Focus S (I also had a BB Curve for a while). When I needed a new "used" phone, I was deciding between a Palm Pre Plus, BlackBerry Torch and DVP. I went with the Pre because it was quite a bit cheaper then the other two. Loved WebOS, but boy I wish I would have had the nerve to pull the trigger for the extra 60.00 or so bucks and got the DVP(the Torch was even more). Bet I could still be using it with that satisfying "slide...click" sound all portrait sliders make.

If there was ever an OS optimised for the portrait slider, it is WP. So wish HTC or Nokia takes a chance and let a decent one out....

The DVP was hands down the nicest of the early WP7 devices, still is. However, there were two glaring problems with them. First was the chipset that couldn't allow wi-fi sharing and worst of all, the camera. Just a torrid camera that couldn't take even a decent picture. If that phone had a worthwhile camera and even Bluetooth PAN, it would have blown all the other devices out of the water. Certainly made the BB 9800 & the Pre series look like welfare cases.

You forgot one more thing wrong with the DVP is that if you updated the OS from original factory OS the Compass stopped working. Atleast it did on mine. It didnt affect Navigation but still it would have been nice to see that working again.
Anyway I have had that phone for about a year now and the 920 was just to good so I acquired it and will be using that very soon. I will probably make the DVP my backup or my brother has expressed interest in it I may give it to him.

Guess what .. I just bought one a couple of weeks ago.. and am very happy. I never even bothered reading about WP and kept trying Android and Symbian phones for the past 3 years (after finally deciding to give up the Nokia dumb phones I had gotten so used to). I regret having wasted all this time on Android when I could've just gotten this gem of a phone. Oh well.. maybe I would have never realized how good Dell Venue Pros are had I not wasted all that time on Android. And I don't think I will upgrade to 7.8 either. 7.5 is way faster and simpler than anything I have used yet.

You won't lose anything by upgrading to 7.8 except the "gutter". The WP8-style home screen, added theme colors and re-sizable tiles are worth it. Good luck and enjoy that beautiful device.

I had to downgrade from 7.8 to 7.5 on my DVP because after a couple months, things went buggy; restarts, shutting off, apps not starting. Weird. Since I downgraded, no problems like that. I do have problems now, but that is from the fact that I am using a phone that is 3.5 years old. I am trying to unlock my AT&T 920 so I can make that my full time phone. T-Mobile never gets the high end stuff and no, I ain't buying the 925 when I picked up the 920 for 40 bucks.
