Are Nokia here maps & navigation really as good as its marketed to be ?

The maps are good. Just a bit bummed as I'll be heading to Japan for a holiday soon and I just realised the maps aren't available for that country.

I miss Google maps since switching from android

WP has gMaps you know...

Even has a payed version :
gMaps Pro | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States)

...and a free version :
gMaps | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States)

Don't know if it's as good as the android version though.

Also, something few ppl are aware of, there is another app, called gMaps+ :
GMaps+ | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States)

And this is a VERY neat app, because it layers Google Maps functionality directly ON TOP of Nokia HERE Drive and HERE Maps.
I've been using it for a month and can't do without anymore. AND it is completely FREE.

I don't even use gMaps Pro anymore which I bought last year.

I think you will love it, mtalinm.

Out of all those gmaps apps you have listed, which one do you recommend most if complete offline navigation and functionality (eg can I search offline) is a must have ?

I loved it on my N8, but have been let down a few times since buying my 1020 (I'm in the UK). Telling me I'd reached my destination in the middle of a motorway. Another time trying to send me for miles down country lanes to the next motorway junction, when the nearest junction was a mile away. Sometimes it struggles to orientate when setting off. The lane needed isn't always clear on motorways where there's a lot of lane merging. It has crashed a couple of times in the middle of a journey, which is a nightmare if there's nowhere to pull over. I now don't completely trust it, whereas I did on my N8.

Sounds pretty similar to the problems I have had with it, and why I switched.

I've used Here and gMaps (which I believe pulls data from Google).
When it comes to searching for stuff neither has been perfect, and I can't really say one is better than the other in that regard.
Traffic data sucks on Here compared to gMaps, which is much more detailed.
But, I just downloaded gMaps+, and it looks like it it has the downloaded maps, but the better traffic info from google :)
For reference I'm in Houston, TX
