At win 10 boot-up, news pop-ups have suddenly began appearing on the screen, before I even sign on; how to disable?
Thank you / appreciated.

Turn Off Windows Spotlight on Lock Screen

  1. Open Settings: Press Windows + I.
  2. Go to PersonalizationLock screen.
  3. Under Background, change from Windows Spotlight to Picture or Slideshow.

  • This stops Microsoft from pushing news, ads, and trivia to your lock screen.

🧹 Optional: Disable Suggestions and Ads Elsewhere

You might also want to turn off other promotional content:

  • SettingsPrivacy & securityGeneral
    • Toggle off “Show me suggested content in the Settings app”.
  • SettingsSystemNotifications

  • Scroll down and disable “Suggest ways I can finish setting up my device” and “Get tips, tricks, and suggestions”.

🔐 If It’s a Third-Party App

If the pop-ups look like full news articles or browser-like windows, it could be:

  • McAfee, Avast, or other antivirus software showing news
  • Widgets or Edge launching automatically
