Blurry Text on external monitor

Coupled my Surface 4 Pro (i5) to an 27" Asus MX279H monitor via mini display to hdmi. While video displays nice and crisp on external monitor, text is blurry. Tried adjusting all settings on monitor to no avail. Read switching to a mini display to VGA may solve this - please advise
