Camera focus issues

Last night I was attempting a photo of my daughter in front of a large Christmas tree. She was completely in the focus box of the frame but no matter what, the camera couldn't focus on her. I'm not sure if it was the bright lights or what, but it was very frustrating. Nothing ended up being in focus. I know my 930 and 920 would have had no issue with this. I'm sure software can fix this, but I'm disappointed to say the least right now.

Though it doesn't change anything about this particular issue itself - which is Microsoft's job to solve - why didn't you just set the focus manually?

Trying to photograph a 2 year old when it's nearly bedtime isn't easy.... If it was an SLR, no problem, but I've never enjoyed manual focus on touch screens

Wasn't the autofocus issue fixed with the latest update? I didn't get around to try it yet, but I think they said so in some other thread here...

Also have some issues with camera focusing in lower light. Is the .29 update only for insiders? I am not enrolled in the program and don't have any updates.

There is a problem with the update. Hopefully it will be resolved because resetting the phone is not a great option

I have a 950. I got the .29 update and the same time got a windows camera update. My autofocus issues have been greatly reduced. Its like its a brand new camera. Keep in mind autofocus has always had problems with christmas trees. Thats not just a 950/xl problem.

Aha, thanks for the answer. Hopefully it gets fixed. Is there any thread where I can follow the update status? Or is there any way I can force the update?

Does anyone know of any good third party lenses or camera apps for this phone? I find it a little bit on the fiddly side to use

I recently (finally!) got the .29 update resolved. Even simple scenes (wife standing in front of her new car) won't focus. Ridiculous how bad this is.

OK, just did some reading and apparently it's fixed in a firmware update (new firmware 01078.00027.15506.020xx, my firmware 01078.00017.15454.29031) that hasn't yet been released to my phone.

I have also been having focus issues. I just checked and I have firmware 01078.00017.15454.29005. Smh, just bought my Dec 23. I'm using it on ATT network. I hope I get the update soon.

I also have the Christmas tree focus issue, but I personally would describe the problem more generically as the "stringy depth" issue. In addition to Christmas trees mine doesn't work well (that's being nice) with hairy dogs and people with lots of facial hair. The phone otherwise focuses great for me
