Cant change camera pixel setting, greyed out.

I see my pictures lately aren't so clear. my pixel setting in the camera app is greyed out at 6 MP. I have a fairly new Lumia 640 with Windows 10 mobile. The specs is an 8MP camera. Why is the option greyed out?
