Case or no case

Neither. I cover my 920 back/sides with Invisible Shield. It looks naked but has a bit of grip and provides a little scratch protection for the body. No screen protector but I really wish I had used one. I have quite a few micro scratches, and the oleophobic coating seems to have worn down a bit.

No case for my white Lumia 920. 1.5 years old (nearly) with lots of drops and only minor corner scrapes. This thing is a tank and I love it.

925 here. I am constantly changing cases. I have a nice, leather wallet case for going places (with two cards I need) so I can leave my wallet behind, and I have two TPU cases (transparent and transparent red/pink) for outside but at home, reading news in peace, playing games... I usually keep it naked. The aluminum is kinda slippery, but the cold feel of it is awesome :D

I own a case for my HTC 8X. However, I roll caseless in almost all situations. The only exceptions are when I'm wearing jeans (the finish on the 8X reportedly wears off when you have it in jeans pockets, due to friction or something) or when I'm going to be going camping, kayaking, or the like. I feel that the build quality of the phone is good enough to handle everyday abuse. Additionally, the Gorilla Glass 2 screen is SUPER easy to clean (I can just wipe it on my shirt and boom), but the case sticks up above the screen so it's much harder to reach the edges of the screen to clean them when it has a case on it.
