Continuum with VGA?

I recently got a cheap USB C - VGA adapter.
I tried it on a 1080p LCD monitor and it worked although the resolution seemed kind of low...
Then I tried it on a projector with native 1024x768 resolution. It didn't work. I don't know if it is because the projector's native resolution isn't at least 720, but with a PC you can set 720p althout it doesn't look very nice of course.

ok, my memory is very fuzzy here, but with VGA there were 2 sync methods available.... Many projectors are picky about the VGA signal coming in (my experience using various component to VGA convertors in the Xbox/ps2/gamecube era) Some VGA screens/projectors used "Sync on green" which was an issue with many devices.

also, with VGA, there were set resolutions available, and most were 4x3 based. Many LCDs don't treat 4x3 content nicely....which leads me to...

Most LCD monitors tend to treat VGA like crap, and well, it shows... I have a pair of sony trinitron CRTs that look amazing when you plug something in, where as 2 of my 3 desktop LCDs make VGA look horrible. the 3rd LCD and my TV (both use the same screen panel type) look pretty good.
