Data use high when battery saver on

Hi all, brand new to WP - bought the Lumia 1020 5 days ago. I downloaded a youtube app and have watching quite a few videos (insomnia). Phone is connected to wifi. Yesterday I turned on battery saver, and also started using Pro Tube app (instead of You Tube app) and wow, HUGE data use. Is battery saver blocking the app from using wifi? Or is it an issue within the app itself?
