Disappointing...

Since there was no other announcement of an 8.1 phone coming to T-Mobile, am I alone in finding this 635 a disappointment? It just seems like they're backtracking by going from the 925 to this phone. Screen is 800x480 pixels, no front-facing camera, rear camera is 5 megapixels and there's no Flash? 512MB of RAM?? It just leaves me feeling blah. I wasn't planning on getting whatever this "Monarch" was going to turn out to be since I just got a 925 and have my 920 as a backup, but this is very disheartening. Why would T-Mobile get such a low end Lumia when most of their newer Android devices and of course the iPhone are high end? Just don't get it. :unhappy:

You think that's disappointing? There wasn't even mention of phones coming to Canada. Bell only has the ATIV S. No carriers have gotten a new WP since the 1020... No 1520. There wasn't a mention of new phones or Cortana support in Canada at all.

It is only the first day. Also this event was more for showing off software than hardware in my opinion. There is supposed to be a Nokia event later from what I have read from other users. Maybe something will show up then.

Yes, it's disappointing when T-Mobile customers were expecting something high end. I personally am fine using my 925, but I know how a lot of customers feel, especially after what happened with the Lumia 810 (which, by the way, is a much better phone than this).

Hopefully. I can't help but think this is probably all T-Mo's going to get for the foreseeable future, though.

Yes!!! I am too. You already know how I feel about T-Mobile's WP offerings. The Lumia 925 was the best shot we had and some ***** crippled it by making it 16gb with no room for memory expansion. Why would you do that to a flagship device when even the lowly 810 had microSD expansion? I will except only facts and not rumors from this point on when it comes to Windows Phone and T-Mobile. And I will skip any post that has "T-Mobile rumor ending with a question mark".(maybe I won't.lol) I was going to stay up for the Nokia event tonight but maybe I'll just go to bed. How many times has this happened to us? We can't just get one? T-Mobile? Nokia?

Absolutely disappointing!
Come on no 720p, no FFC and only 512MB RAM? How can the Lumia 635 compete with 16GB Moto G? Just microSD card support , Dual SIM and LTE is not worth it. Why couldn't they have included 720p, FFC, 1GB RAM, Dual SIM, LTE for Lumia 635 and price it equal to 16GB GB Moto G for $199 is beyond my comprehension!!

For $10 more they could have really crushed the MotoG. Did anyone see how in three months MotoG captured 6% of the UK marketshare (according to Kantar WorldPanel data). To me it seems like they are missing out on such a huge opportunity to stick it to Android:-(

I hope once the acquisition is completed MSFT wakes up and upgrades the 635 to 645 with the requisite goodies 720p, FFC, 1GB RAM, Dual SIM, LTE, microSD and prices it equal to 16GB MotoG. I think that would be a runaway winner and it will way outsell any other WP device out there!

This wasn't a Nokia phone event. Its for developers

Buy a phone unlocked and you get anything you want, but since no cash on hand you hope all will come to tmo. Tmo choose the 635 for price and low cost to customers, wonder why the 520/521 is such a huge hit?

I bet once this phone hits T-Mobile, it'll only be available in black and white. Or maybe only ONE of those colors.

Read the full press release and you will quickly understand why the priority is on a budget device. T-Mobile and MetroPCS Continue to Expand Consumer Choice, Will Offer New Windows Phone 8.1 on Nokia's Upcoming Lumia 635 | T-Mobile

The Lumia 635 will build on all the qualities and benefits that made its predecessor - the Lumia 521 - so popular among American wireless customers. According to T-Mobile US, first-time smartphone buyers were particularly drawn to the Lumia 521 for its extraordinary ease-of-use and its budget-friendly price point, making it the best-selling Windows Phone device ever for T-Mobile.

"With all the advanced features the Lumia 635 has to offer - like its quad core processor, beautiful 4.5 inch screen and most advanced Windows Phone OS - we fully expect Nokia's latest smartphone to do as well or better than its predecessor," Young added.

Also, I'm willing to bet this will regularly sell for $100-130.

I so agree. A client of mine in his lates 60s got 521 to use with tmo and loves it. Wants to get one for his wife that is also in her 60s.

So ....... the Nokia 'Monarch' is this? Not very 'monarchy' in my opinion. :straight:

The 635 isn't the Monarch. And it isn't meant to be a flagship, it's a replacement for the extremely popular 521 for both them and Metro PCS. A T-Mobile Nokia flagship is coming, just not today. Build is a Microsoft event mainly focused on software and developers (DEVELOPERS!!!). Nokia only announced these phones at Build because they're the first phones with the OS that Microsoft happens to be demoing at the same event.

I really hope you're right!
