"Double" Tap virtually worthless?

I have an option to enable "double tap to wake up phone" in my Lumia 520 (bought from the US; AT&T locked which was unlocked) which came with Amber pre-installed. But even on enabling it, double tap to wake does not work. Any clues?

I have the N9 too. That's why I mentioned the notification icons. :) However, the glance on WP has an advantage over the one on the N9, which is the ability to dim the clock on a certain interval, which is very useful at night. The N9 would simply light up my room with glance on.

Another thing I think they could adopt from the N9 and would fit WP like a glove is the Swipe UI. It's so awesome!!! :D
N9 can be hacked to do the glance thing, just a wide spread mod...

I think this is a mistake, because your phone don't have compatibilty to turn this feature on.

I love double tap, especially if I want a quick glance at the screen while its sitting on a table or desk. Glance, now I consider that a useless feature.

I have a 520, and it works somewhat inconsistently. At least for me, I don't find it especially useful. Not a big deal to press the side power button. I'll give the double tap another try one of these days.

520 user here, can confirm. It will sometimes work and sometimes not. But then again, I've had to tap some tiles twice to open apps, so it may just be the screen/RAM/processor.

It may be a problem with the screen.

My 620 has practically the same RAM and processor, and its screen works fine.

928 here. Works about 97% of the time. Sometimes I have to double tap the double tap and then it will work.

I LOVE double tap ! Probably one of the best features of Amber... I also know where you're coming from - it tends to be unresponsive at times...

I feel its something to do with the actual working in the background - almost something like a 2-3 second detection interval or cycle..
The screen wakes up instantaneously at times, at other times I find myself waiting for a second or two..
It might have been a decision to avoid excessive battery drain - no question that its extremely useful though !

I enjoy it. Even tapping my other devices that do not have this option 😊

I'm on the medication so I do not take any responsibility for my posts.

Double tap you use your finger not your fist 

Just got my 1020 on Saturday and I am going through this forum from the top. Thanks for the post about double tap - it worked just fine for me

I love this, I keep my phone on my desk at work and a double tap to wake is so helpful, means I don't have to "grab" my phone to press the button on the side to wake.

I was SO excitedd to hear of the pending double tap feature! Woo hoo! First disappointment, it didn't get past the lock screen. Now, I have to say, it is worthless. It may work, it may not. I've tried light touches and heavy touches, short intervals and long intervals. I've tapped reapeatedly, perhaps ten times before it wakes up.

At least the power button method is consistent.

What say you?

Easy solution: turn on 'high sensitivity' for your touch screen (which is nice because it also allows you to use your phone while you wear gloves). I turned that on and have found 'double tap to awake' to be really responsive. The trick is that you don't have to tap it that hard at all. Just two light, quick taps anywhere on the screen will consistently wake it up, no problem. I use double tap exclusively now. I only use the power button in the reverse situation: to turn the screen off.
