EMBARASSING and APPALLING - That's what my Surface Pro 4 is.

I honestly think you should go back to your iPad mini.

My suggestions are:

What browser are you using?

Which Skype application are you using?

What playback application are you using?

Maybe using a full fledged OS is too complicated for you.

I love my surface to death.

Are you stating that your Surface doesn't have problems?? Please help us all out ??? If i knew that a product from microsoft, leader in the OS and App bussiness, was such a piece of........ for sure i would have waited for something else, huawei matebook or even the Samsung Pro . IOS is a system that i NEVER buy or use again that's for sure.

Actually my surface doesn't have any problems and I use it quite heavily for school. My gaming laptop and my gaming computer have problems on the other hand. I just try to fix things and research about it before I complain. There's nothing in this world that exists without problems.

Ok guys, let's just calm down a bit. It is an electronic device and things are bound to go wrong. Something goes wrong for you, may not for me. In my case, it is a very peculiar issue.
Now here is what I have done, as per the Microsoft Support:

Flash WIN10 through a USB from the link they provided. I did just that.

And what happened?

The device is working absolutely fine. The driver issue is gone.

BUT

This is NOT the anniversary update but the version I had got with my Surface a month ago.

Which I am fine to use. I am going to test this out, install apps and everything. And then update again to anniversary update next week to see if the issue still persists.

MS has agreed to give me a replacement, just that the guy said, "It MIGHT NOT be a new device." Which to me is totally unacceptable. In that case, I will ask for a refund.

Now coming to the Apple vs Microsoft part.

Guys I am a member of this forum from the last 6 years. I LOVE MICROSOFT to DEATH too. But don't get me wrong. This product doesn't work. At least for me. And I expect you guys to accept it the way it is. I have no personal vengeance against MS. I love them a lot. But if you are going to take my money and give me something that doesn't deliver, I don't think you deserve my hard earned money.

It is just that. Am I angry? Yes, very angry. Am I going to invest in Microsoft again. Yes I will. Why? Because this is a very peculiar SOFTWARE glitch. It needs to be rectified. That's all. And yes, while my uber cool Surface has been lying around without sound, I have been using my 6 year old iPad Mini that TILL DATE WORKS LIKE A CHARM. I have no shame in saying that here.

Let Microsoft produce a product like that, we will debate it then. Until then it is:
iPad Mini (6 year old) - 1
Surface Pro 4 - 0.

My beef is due to the thread title. It literally screams 'notice me'. We all come here for help, not to be special and loved. ALL devices can have issues and, these days, it's to be expected to a certain point.

Also being ' extremely angry and upset' is a bit much. Blood pressure... be healthy :)

Anyway, in the end, I do hope that you're happy as that's the main thing.

For now i have my Surface working and the only problem is that it's freezing without notice or "overcharged" with apps. No clockspeed at fixed values, no overheating or other problems. Although i notice that my batt is not holding up as it should (4 hours) i think i am starting to get this solved. Unfortunatly this is the work for MS to discover what is wrong with this device and not ours !!! I have the Surface for about 3 months now and it hasn't been working as it should yet.

Anyone knows how the batt is monitored and charged? Want to check how it is done.........

Have been using my Surface WITHOUT the Anniversary Update. It has been a BREEZE. However, when it updated after a week. It is BACK to the SAME issue.

I am seriously considering what to do next?

get the device replaced, it surely has something to do with the software update. do your research & make sure others SP4 users don't have issues with the AU.

Issue is, for replacement, the Microsoft Support staff is saying they won't give me a new one, but a device that is "LIKE NEW". Which I REFUSE to accept. I have paid the full price and have highlighted this issue in the same month of the Anniversary Update that botched the device. So I am entitled to get a BRAND NEW device and not a second hand or refurbished.

Does anyone else know of this policy?

What you have is not new. It seems to me that replacing yours with a "LIKE NEW" device is fair. I can understand your beef if yours never worked right out of the box, but if the Anniversary Update caused the issue, then you got some good time out of it. It worked fine when it was not new anymore. The issue came some time down the road.

By that logic, nothing is wrong with the device per say.

"Like NEW" is not fair at all. It is under warranty, it has been only 1 month and there is absolutely no physical damage to the device and the hardware is just fine. What is the guarantee that the next "like new" device won't be more warped than this?

I deserve a new device and I WILL get one. I don't mind rattling some cages for doing that. Apple has been sued for the same BTW by two people and they have receded in their policy. At least for these two.

I don't mind going to the court for this.

I can always roll back and never update to AU. But then again, what surprises me is two things:

1. no one has faced this issue yet

2. It's a small software glitch and MS being MS can't fix it.

By that logic, nothing is wrong with the device per say.

I'm not sure you're following my logic. I also realize I didn't make my thought clear enough. Also, I didn't see before this post where you said how long you had the Surface. Did you buy it one month before the AU was released, or one month from now? Because the AU has been out for almost a month.

Anyway, I'll try to describe my thought pattern more clearly.

When you first bought your device, it worked fine. In the time between when you bought it and the AU was released, your Surface went from being new to being 1 month old (again, I'm not sure on the timing here).

Enter the Anniversary Update. Suddenly your 1-month-old-working-perfectly-with-all-current-updates Surface turned into a device needing a warranty replacement, due to issues with the Anniversary Update. Since you had no issues with it until the AU, warranty should only be obligated to give you a similar device to what yours was at the point it started having problems, except of course this one must actually work with the AU. Warranty's obligation is to provide for you a 1-month-old-working-perfectly-with-all-current-updates device.

Now, if you would have had problems with it from Day 1, I can see why you should get a new device. But if you would have had problems right away, you would have had it replaced earlier.

Either way, I hope you get your new device. Because it is only one month old you probably have a better chance. It sounds like you will have to request it though!

Can't you just get a full refund then buy another SP4?

MS doesnt have that option sadly. My online dealer has, but there are tons of Ifs and Buts. Also, the package shouldnt be damaged when I send it, but if they damage it in transit, it is not their responsibility. What a load of...anyways. I am NOT willing to let go off my device and into the hands of these thugs.

Thanks. I get it now. I know what you are saying. But don't you think MS has a lot of better things to do rather than find me exactly a month old Surface Pro 4, with AU working properly. It is too much of a far shot. Also, if you look around on Reddit, you will some of the horror stories of exchanging and getting a refurbished one, more scarier than Conjuring 2.

I think I will stick to mine for a while. MS Support today have been a little positive and said they will bring this up with their tech team and will hopefully push an update that fixes this. I have other alternate methods to deal with this, but that involves me losing the warranty instantly. I hope you know what I mean.

And yes, I bought it exactly one week before AU hit. So that's technically One week + One month (with AU).

Good luck. It is not a bad device at all TBH. I am just a little unlucky (as usual). LOL.

Hi. I bought a SP4 last Friday and updated it to 14393.51, and your experience of no sound, videos not playing, etc sounds the same as mine. Every time after logging on following a full shut down the issues arose, but restarting the SP4 would resolve them and everything worked perfectly.

I've now recovered to 10586 and everything works perfectly first time when logging on following a full shut down.

However, after recovering I found a potential solution to the issue on Build 14393 on another site - see my post: http://forums.windowscentral.com/mi...au-issues-video-all-browsers.html#post3547835

Hopefully this suggestion/workaround fixes things for you.

Firstly, THANK you for a very level-headed response and a possible solution. As Stephen King put it once, "Misery likes company" I am happy to know there are other people with more knowledge than me who are looking for a solution for this peculiar issue. I am going to try this as soon as I get home. I can't wait to try this.

Like I said, I had to jumpstart the drivers every time by either restarting or uninstalling the drivers. But what you have explained in your post about the issue is EXACTLY what is happening to me. I am glad you saw this post and suggested a solution. Really really appreciate it.
