firmware update for Surface Pro 2 releasing on january 14th for fixing issues with december updatr.

My Surface actually stopped starting by itself when shut down, over a week before this firmware update. Instead lately it has started often booting only to a black screen with a regular mouse pointer stuck in the middle (I have not had a mouse or a keyboard plugged in). So I wait and nothing happens and finally I hold the power button in and it reboots just fine.

This behavior persists after this latest firmware update. However I haven't used it enough to know if the random reboots are fixed.

Now if we could only get a proper stylus calibration...

You should be able to change the system language (like the actual Windows language) in Windows 8. There is such ability.
Definitely something you can look into

Of course I have looked into it. Deleting the Norwegian language altogether after choosing English as default doesn't remove Norwegian as a language for root operations like logging in and updating. I would have to download and install a completely English Windows for that most likely.

The only thing I accomplish by removing the language pack is that handwriting recognition in my language is then gone. I can get handwriting recognition back by reinstalling the Norwegian language. Although ot defaults to English even with a Norwegian keyboard.

But here's the thing: you can not train it to your handwriting style in other languages than your system main language! You can click on learn your handwriting in your language localized language pack, but it leads to English no matter what if that is your primary language.

Well now that you have the firmware, you can re-install the OS. Should be back to English.

Having the entire OS in the same language would be nice but it doesn't do much good if I cannot still write by hand in my own language.

Maybe windows 9?
Windows 8 the first windows that you can change the account language... so hopefully next version

Yes maybe. I will try and live with Windows in all Norwegian. (sigh). It's horrible since imstead of using actual established words for everything computer related, they have made up silly Norwegian new words for it all, so as not to "contaminate" the language with English.

I have the 1/18 update installed and still having issues with the battery showing only 9% charged when I know it's fully charged.

I have the same issue except backwards. The battery shows 100% pretty much always. The "volume+power hold" resets it, but it comes back after I wake it up from sleep. Who knows when the real fix will come.

Well crud. I thought that last firmware update fixed the problem with the battery meter getting stuck. It has been fine for weeks, but it just happened. I plugged in the charger at 10% over an hour ago, and it's still reporting 10%. Bummer.

I have experienced this issue. It seams to only occur, for me at least, when the system goes to sleep or hibernate based on what you set it to, when you are too low battery. It does indeed charge the battery, but the battery sensor isn't being updated, and requires VolUp + Power reboot to fix it. But more testing needs to be done. As it isn't something that happens often (only twice, where one of them I did on purpose), I don't is, personally, as a big problem, of I would like to have it fixed, but it's not problematic. I'll normally plug it in before that, or definitely when Windows tells me that my battery is low.
