##3282# as suggested by pankaj981 on the third post. After some use I have decided to change it back to automatic because my battery has started to drain faster. I don't know if that's the case but I will test if my battery lasts longer now.

I said it a long time ago. ##3282 is the code I used. It worked for me.

I have this exact problem of switching between 3g and 2g in my lumia720 amber.

The problem has become severe after the gdr2+amber update. Even a slight variation in 3g signal will make the phone switch to 2g. Now I cannot use 3G because of this issue.

This field test code isn't working either. Any other solutions?

Field test work on my Lumia 822. But 3G only setting doesn't work, I set up 3G only, hit the windows key and it stay on EDGE.

It cant be done in most of the post amber fons.. MS isn't hearing us.. 3G cant be used on my 820.

After GDR3, Field test is back in Lumia phones and you can force your phone to use 3G. wink

I'm surprised there remain areas with 2G and 3G coverage-- the only coverage I get is 4G, and once in a while LTE...

Yeah, In India we have LTE in only 4-5 cities, 3G in Tier-1 cities and 2G in rest.

I leave my 822 on 2G until I actually need mobile web access, as I'm around Wifi 95% of the time. I'm usually at 50%, or more, battery life after 16 hours of moderate to heavy use.

Nokia developers please listen to this thread. Nokia Lumia is useless in India without a stable 3G. I can use my Samsung galaxy without any trouble, locked to 3G.
The basic function of a smartphone is neglected

Will ##3282 or ##3283# works to force lumia 520 as i even lost 3g after updating it to amber, missing my 3g speed. And when i dialing ##3282 nothing showing up and even after dialing ##3282# it showing ''something went wrong, couldn't complete request''. So please give me lumia 520 code and help to solve my 3g problem

I am not sure why would Microsoft be involved for this since its clearly on Nokia/carrier's discretion

This issue of switching between 3g and 2g has been greatly reduced for me. I'm not sure what did it, there was a recent update for access point, that might be it.

Though its not as flawless as it was at first, it much better now.
