Goodbye, Lumia 920: The AT&T Exclusive Superphone Will Probably Flop

HTC is going to be WP's savior on Verizon and T-Mobile. With the "flagship" Lumia being a carrier exclusive, no doubt Verizon and T will be whipping out the 8X to keep users happy.

I'm also putting my money on HTC. I just seen the spec on the HTC 8X+ and I thought you guys were BS'n about the quad core chipsets in phones. WTS.

HTC will have phone on AT&T, Versizon, and Tmobile. Several models. Just like they did from the begining. GO HTC!

I think Samsung is just putting their name in the hat for the **** of it. They still raking in all that Android money, so they going to squeeze every penny out of that. I don't blame them. But that well may run dry soon.

The front page article about "exclusivity" is funny.

Now I realize that this can be a sensitive topic for alot of you on here but please refrain from the personal attacks. As for the topic those who are on T-mobile can still get the 920 if you pay full price as T-mobile will be refarming their existing HSPA+ network to the 1900mhz band. It should be live in a few areas by the time the 920 is released.

And they will. The 8X is a beautiful device.

It looks like the 920 will not be sold by my carrier either. I'd be perfectly content with the HTC.

A very few areas. I don't think that'll be widespread for a minute. But it's a start. Still, I use to get tmobile phones and unlock them for about 10 bucks and just settle for edge. I'm around wifi pretty much 24/7 seven. The small amount of data that's included with data plans nowadays, wifi is almost a must anyway.

That's like saying competition is bad. Because if the Nokia 920 isn't sold on other carriers, HTC and Samsung will not have to compete with them.

No. I was saying if a device that I'm not particularly fond of is unavailable to me, I'm not going to give a tinker's cuss.

This whole "Nokia will make or break the ecosystem" stuff is odd. Especially in the U.S. where it was never a player to begin with. Everyone's panties are in a twist over this "exclusivity" bs, citing that the 920 was the linchpin that held the entire platform's success or failure in its hand, is utter nonsense. It's not like the 920 has no peer.

At this point, it just seems we are arguing just to hear ourselves talk. (Yes - me included)

No one forces you to buy anything. If you want subsidized phone, you get one. If you want to buy a phone outright, you can do that too.

The problem here is that you basically can't buy an unsubsidized 920 and getting it unlocked to use it in a different carrier. As long as it's exclusive, AT&T won't release the codes. So, if you want the 920 and are with a different carrier you're out of luck.

Lumia 920

Okei.
Buy that HTC if you want to.
I'll have L920 because we are not depended on carriers in Finland.
I drive Alfa Romeo, not Toyota like "normal" people do.
Less L920's is better (for me).
If you really want to have L920 you can have it...

Import it from Europe, ebay?

There are 100's of online cellphone unlock sites that I've used. I've used them many of times and they have yet to fail.

If you can afford a unlocked unsubsidized phone, I'm sure splurging $15 more on an unlock code won't break the bank.

$15? the unlock code for Lumia 900 now is $50 on ebay

At least they do sell them now. Last time I checked there were no codes due to that exclusivity thing.
I think I'll better get me an unsubsidized and unlocked 8S and save myself some trouble.

900 flop maybe but it grabbed a lot of mindshare and attention. ATT is all in with Windows 8 which can help push the Windows Phone ecosystem and help sell Nokia products.

This thread is now the HOTTEST in the forums now...people have to voice out their feelings and worries. I can really see the love for Windows Phone here....Microsoft needs to read this thread....lol :)

Hold on, I thought they werent the saviour of Windows Phone, so how can the success of the OS now be on them and not HTC that MS is getting cozy with because Nokia sucks so much?

As you yourself said:

So which is it?

Both, Windows Phone future depends on Nokia for the international market.
Nokia's idiocity might doom them in the states.

They are the savior but they are sucking at it.
