Goodbye, Lumia 920: The AT&T Exclusive Superphone Will Probably Flop

and maybe by the time that happens, everyone that was waiting will move to Android/IOS.

Nokia keeps making stupid decisions one behind another and people keep defending it. Nokia is not rye savior of Windows Phone, even Microsoft decided to back up HTC.

Excellent point Winterfang, that's exactly what I've been trying to put across and make everyone understand....even the main reason why I started this thread, but Nokia fans will defend with their last breath....don't be blind brothers, see the light.

Or maybe by the time that happens, people will be tired of Android/IOS and will have a new Nokia waiting for them.

We can "maybe" and "what if" until the cows come home.

No amount of spin will make this claim any more legit, makes sense in an alternate universe but not in reality. :dry

A) You're not even in the US...so STFU

B) Related to point A, the US is not the centre of the universe

Point A : That's a very STUPID comment to be made by an idiotic person like you here in the forums. So far as I like Tech, I will say everything that concerns it. You would have known the main reason I posted this if you had the sense and brains to read all comments...smh...you need to be shot for making this comment.

Point B : I totally agree with you.

So what is the problem then? Get another device. An 8X or an Ativ are flagship phones as well and compare favorably to the 920. You can either:

1) Get an HTC or a Samsung
2) Switch carriers
3) Get an unlocked 920 from a multitude of on line vendors.
4) Disengage from the o/s entirely and hook up with Android or iOS.

You don't even like Nokia. You should be happy it's flaming out.

I don't get why some of you are so wrapped up in Nokia's fortunes or misfortunes if you had no desire to purchase one in the first place. If you were a Toyota fan and disliked Honda, would you be pissed that no one sold a Civic in your area?

Thank you Thank you Thank you and THANK YOU!

Nokia is important to Windows Phone, if Nokia doesn't sell neither will Windows Phone. Their baffling decisions are making the whole ecosystem suffer. They could go bankrupt tomorrow for all I care but then Windows Phone will die and I like Windows on my phone.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you and once again thank you.....finally thank you.......got your back ;-)

Windows Phone is our pride and we ain't gonna sit down and make some damn decisions made by an OEM kill it.

I think this is strange that you guys are blasting Nokia upside down for not doing enough, while recognizing the importance of Nokia in building the ecosystem together with MS to hit 100k apps. And somehow hoping HTC will pick up the slack since they are backed by MS now, with HTC doing little to advance the WP cause, and releasing another Android flagship to compete with its own 8X?

Sure, baffling decisions like exclusivity need to be blasted to pieces and if Nokia needs to be held to a higher standard, then it must be doing something right to deserve such scrutiny. However, Nokia's business decisions aren't and can't be made in isolation especially when it is dealing with companies like Verizon and Sprint. Nokia will love its devices everywhere, but L800 wasn't picked up by the T-Mobile guys, nor the rest. So give it a rest for a while.

As much as I like the 920 there is no way in heck i'm going to ATT. The 8X is quite nice and will be on Tmo. No such luck with the 920, the 820 looks like it will be there. I'm not going to take Nokia's sloppy seconds. Right now i'm on a Gnex that is working great. I still want to get a new W8 phone. I did go to the event in NYC for the 920. Nokia GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF ATT's BUTT AND RELEASE ON ALL CARRIERS! Ahh that felt better :D

Doesn't say much about the HTC or Samsung phones if the Nokia ones are going to be the make or break of Windows Phone does it?

Yeah it sucks. The 920 was looking like a cool device and was hoping I could grab a gray 920 on T-Mobile.

Not a big deal I'll probably grab the black 8X instead. Just wish it had wireless charging.

That's like saying competition is bad. Because if the Nokia 920 isn't sold on other carriers, HTC and Samsung will not have to compete with them.

Nokia's net effect on the WP platform has been a positive one in my opinion. Sure they have made some mistakes but the hardware and marketing is miles ahead of what any of the other OEMs have done thus far.

HTC released some WP7 devices and then didn't bother releasing updates for their phones in a timely manner. Samsung released some WP7 phones but they were half arsed compared to their Android offerings. Now they quietly announce a boring Ativ S that has no buzz around it, and has been quickly forgotten outside of these forums.

Just because Nokia had their partnership with MS, doesn't give the OEMs a free pass.

It may be the whole apps mess. I can't wait to see ish hit the fan when HTC announces their instagram exclusivity for wp8.

Hold on, I thought they werent the saviour of Windows Phone, so how can the success of the OS now be on them and not HTC that MS is getting cozy with because Nokia sucks so much?

As you yourself said:

Nokia keeps making stupid decisions one behind another and people keep defending it. Nokia is not rye savior of Windows Phone, even Microsoft decided to back up HTC.

So which is it?

Could nokia apps be withheld from them if they try that? Woudln't MS want it on all phones for the sake of adoption?

1) Has it occurred to anyone that it is exclusive with AT&T because a GSM version is ready to go, but they are still working on something that will fly with Verizon? It would not be the first time that has been the case.
2) Of course, not to burst anyone's bubble, but Verizon has yet to confirm it will carry ANY specific Windows Phone 8 devices on the release date. They have simply chosen to not deny they will have them. If every "leaked" roadmap was true there would already be a quad-core iPhone, 7 inch iPad, and 10 in Playbook.

With all of that said, claiming exclusivity of anything with AT&T is remarkably stupid and I doubt Microsoft is happy about it. Exclusivity does not work when you are starting from a market penetration of near zero. Quite frankly, leaving all other issues aside, lots of people have left AT&T and will never go back regardless of what device the offer - they same is also true of Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc.. Forcing them to a specific carrier in order to get a specific device as likely gets many to complain and then choose another device on their preferred carrier. If that carrier is late to the game with Windows Phone 8 devices, guess what they are going to buy? This is the antithesis of wise marketing when attempting to actually grow a market share from (near) scratch.
