High Phantom Data Usage

My data usage has more than doubled since I got my 920. Just the other day i checked my account just to see what i was up to. Although I am still on an unlimited data plan, I had heard a while back that ATT was going to start throttling us after a certain amount (whats throttled LTE speed anyway? 3g?). In the past year I have owned both an iPhone4 and Lumia 900. During those times my data was about .5gigs a month. Now I am averaging over 1.5gigs. Didnt think much of it since I am a member of Xbox Music and all my playlist are streamed (does anybody know how to download?).

If you go into music and go over to songs, you can change the category "all" to "cloud collection" and use the select option at the bottom and select the ones you want to download and tap download. I know, it's annoying, especially when you have several hundred songs in the collection.

You don't have some crazy 20GB email that is stuck in your outbox on your device that keeps trying to send but can't because of the size? I found that once on one of my Android users... it wasn't because of a data issue that I found it but it was sucking the battery down like you wouldn't belive trying to send that file (100MB) in that case.

Mine appears to be related to streaming audio switching from wifi to LTE following a sufficient pause that results in wifi shutting off and resuming play via BT headphones, which keeps screen off and therefore wifi off. I have not streamed any audio at work this week and have used <100MB since Monday (~30 MB per day on average) where I had used 2.3 GB halfway through my billing cycle (~160 MB/day on average) with streaming audio while at work while I thought I would be using wifi like I did on iOS in the same use case.

Sorry for the revival of a week old post, but I'm having this problem. I use almost 4GB every month and I'm on WiFi at home and at work and I just noticed this:

I have been on WiFi all day with the phone plugged in (I heard that it keeps WiFi under lock screen when plugged in). But it sent ~20MB of data in under 10 minute intervals over my data connection. This is on AT&T with the Lumia 920.

I am on an iPhone and just got hit with this same series of data 'sent' on ATT. The same problem happened on my wifes iPhone a few weeks ago and a week before that.

I suspect that it may be Dropbox syncing my favorites as we both have that app on our phones. Are you using Dropbox?

I've had no issues and I'm no where near 1 GB after 3 weeks of use. If there's an iPhone on your plan check that. The iPhone has big issues with using background data.

The only thing I can think of is that LTE is so much faster than WiFi, I just use LTE now with my Lumia 920, I am normally at between 600m-1 gig, last month Ali hit 2.6g with my 920. WiFi is mostly turned off

I was having the same problem. I called att and they boosted me up to the 5GB plan minus my 18% employee discount and they gave me unlimited texting for $10 a month instead of $20. I got an extra 2 gigs for $1 more a month on my bill.

I have 3 920's on my account and one them started doing the same exact thing (19+ MB ever minute or so). I called AT+T and they told me to bring the phone to the store and I did and the tech reset it and turned into a brick and it was replaced with a 925 that just stated doing the same thing. The other 2 920's do not have this problem and never have.

Be careful how to read your carrier's data usage. The entries are aggregated, e.g. the amound of data use is the total data between the current time indicated and last time reported. It is almost always caused by some apps. Unfortunately without data sense, you really can't determine which app is using that much data unless you manually remove apps.

the reason behind this might be the auto sync of photos (backup) to skydrive.
check n confirm the settings. this may cause huge data usage.
do tell if u find it.

Speaking about hight data usage:
I just realized the even if im at home and have wlan, over the night Data Sense shows that my phone used 2-3Mb of data...
I know that WP deactivates the wlan after a while if you are not using your phone to save battery power.

Now i think over the night apps like whatsapp,email or twitter still connect to the internet from time to time. and that happens, even if you are logged in into a wlan, with your UMTS conection !
Im at home now for 3 nights and already lost 10Mb...

Anyone knows more about that ?

welcome to the club, I made a thread about this, I've got my money on a scam by AT&T and its not limited to windows phones.

Funny how they say I use 2 gigs in less than an hour and 17 gigs in 15 days at this rate I'll be at 40 gig in a month.

Definitely an ATT scam, and done at a higher up level than your regular ATT store employee/usual tech support, so they wouldn't know how to fix it. My problem stopped miraculously the day I upgraded to 3GB/month (was on old plan with 200mb, this forced me to upgrade to 300mb, which obviously didn't work, as I would reach 300 by mid-month no matter how little I used the phone. Once I changed to 3GB I never use past 350mb/month...........)

Also, if you noticed, your phone only has 16GB storage, taking out the OS, you have around 13GB. Sending out 10GB a month makes absolutely no sense,

had a 5gig plan never used more then 6 for months then it jumped to 7-8 without changing my habits so I went with a 10gig plan and my first bill on that plan was 15 or 16 gigs used. Sorry but bull**** its a scam total scam, I called att out on it and said there looking into it. I let them calmly I'll pay my bill but will not pay the overage charges.
