How do I connect lumia510 phones on ubuntu os?

how to connect and sync or even simply just view the contents on my lumia storage on my Ubuntu 12.04 os ? Last time i connected my phone via a usb cable the contents on my storage got corrupted.. i had to format the whole phone......

It should just be to connect it and you should be able to see it as a USB stick.

There's a couple of Linux programs for cell phone connectivity, but they don't work on Windows Phones. I have Linux Mint and I tried to get my HTC Trophy connected and I couldn't.

You shall try Android File Transfer For Linux (hosted on github.com). The author recently added WP8 support and now this is the only solution that reliable works, afaik. At least it's able to connect my Lumia 1020 WP8.1 Denim and Kubuntu 15.04 via usb.
Of course, device shall be unlocked with correct PIN beforehand. The project is a library and has simple GUI which is mostly for library demonstration and testing purposes, so don't blame it for UX.
