How To set wallpapers

Hey all,

I have a rather annoying problem with my 950XL, I can't set a wallpaper properly.

Even if the size is same as the display, even if the navigation buttons are hidden, even if it shown properly on the preview part, I just can't set the wallpaper properly, its either zoomed in, or totall dispositioned.

Why is that?

Ps: I have only live tiles on one screen so scrolling down is not active

zimilaci, I have had the same trouble, been changing the look of the phone last two days (for something different) and the preview is never the same as the finished result. I found something I liked, so stop playing with it.

Why is that?

So the reason for this is the parallax effect that's used when swiping to the applist. In order to accommodate this animation, the wallpaper needs to have a wide aspect ratio than your screen. Tbh, not sure what the exact ratio it needs to be, but this is why when you set a 9:16 image to you lockscreen it fits perfectly but when you set it as a wallpaper you need to do some cropping.

I completely agree it's frustrating :/

Been there as well. The only way it displays' the image correctly is if you set to tile picture. Yuk! Big thick black lines. When you adjust transparency its even more ugly! I like my tiles at 95% transparency with no borders. I ended up just using a space theme

Ok, I'm going to do a shameless plug here (at least I warn people up front :smile but only because it's relevant now.

I made an auto-updating (every 15mins) wallpaper/lockscreen app that uses 1080p and 4k pictures taken from a Japanese weather satellite, Himawari 8. The app is called Live Earth: Himawari 8 and is free in the store for mobile and pc.

Might suit your needs?

Yay! I'm off to the store. Do the guys who run/moderate/deal with us idiots and the whole site in general, know about your app?? You need to let them know if you haven't. Gonna download it and give it a go. My lock screen is great with Amazing Weather, I just need a start screen wallpaper!

Reminds me just how fragile things are, and there is more to life than OS bugs etc. I'm on RS1 insider and text displays ok. Just need to get wallet sorted and I could have a punt on this one.

No, I haven't pushed it super hard just yet because I have stability updates coming out this weekend and wanted to have my best foot forward before I tried to draw more attention to it. Plan post it to App Spotlight after those updates are live.

Yea :sweaty:...I'm working on stream-lining it but it was one of my first apps so it'll requires a lot of time/work to shrink down the bloat. It's on my list for sure though!

There is no need to pay anything to enjoy the app :smile:. I went to great lengths to ensure the free user experience was good as a standalone. If you wish to support me, you're welcome to donate $1, $3, $6, $9 (or any combination of those) and it will unlock 4k images and disable advertising among a few other things. These are all minor features and really just a way to thank those who are willing to support me directly. There is no difference for the user who donates $1 vs $9. Only a difference to in my gratitude.

Sadly, there is no European satellite current or planned with a similar quality camera that I'm aware of in geo-synchronous orbit so I cannot make such an update to this app.

I have just come across a small niggle. When I change a wallpaper style, ie time lapse etc, my lock screen gets changed, even though disabled in app.

To make sure I understand correctly, you have only enabled Live Wallpaper but when you switch from the Visible Light tab to Timelapse your lockscreen inadvertently changes as well? Is this occuring on Mobile or PC?

If this is not what you mean, can you walk me through each step after you open the app? I'd like to try and reproduce the issue on my machine.
