I can't get Lumia Motion Data to work

Has anyone manage to get the Lumia Motion data on the Lumia 950 XL to work? I have it set to basic in Extras and the Microsoft Health app is configured with only my cellphone (I do not have a band) and the device option to report my steps is set to on.

Regardless of that it doesn't seem to be reporting my steps.

It started to work out of nowhere. I don't know if it was the time between the initial setup of the app and now that made the trick but it is working now.

It syncs at fixed intervals. So it appears to be not working but then shows activity after syncing.
