I may have water damage. How do I turn it off?

I left out phone in Rain with a cover. Now the screen won't respond. How can I turn it off so it stays off so that I can leave it to dry? Phone has signal, receives calls and texts that I can't answer because of screen not working. Have removed sim, placed in bag with rice overnight but does not seem to be working.
