I received my Surface Pro 3. Ask me anything!

I got mine as well and there was no firmware out of the box to fix power issue so hopefully that's coming soon.

However I cannot figure out how to get my Google Calendars to sync with calendar on SP3. We use Google Apps for business and I have a lot of calendars that I need to view. Just thought it would do it automatically? Email is seamless

Have you installed and used any Professional Art Programs like ArtRage or Corel Painter? If yes, how is the pressure sensitivity and speed of programs. Any sluggish issues?

I don't use any professional art programs, so I can't tell. From what I have been doing so far I haven't experienced any sluggish issues while doing some more heavy multitasking; however, the sensitivity in the pen needs to be adjusted a bit. You have to press way too hard to reach the max pressure level, and it feels a bit unnatural. The pen does have a slight amount of lag; however, it isn't bad, and my guess is that it will probably get better in a firmware update. Sorry that I can't test any of the professional programs, but hopefully someone else on here with a SP3 can.

I don't notice anything like that on my type cover. Can you post a picture?

I hope these two pictures can show what I am talking about. It is just a slight bump and I can hear that it clicks like when you have a gap in between when I bend it up or down.

Where did you end up putting the little tab to hold the pen? I don't like the spot they show on the demo units.

I haven't decided where to put it as well so I stuck the pen in my backpack for now.

Ok... I see what you are talking about... Ok.. .ok... calm down... It may not be and issue to worry about. Seriously, this coming from someone who can be extremely anal over gadgets, lol.

Microsoft has a great warranty and if it does become a problem, it will be replaced. I think like any part, it can become an issue if the area is stressed...

Is this normal? I am seeing that right around the top where the 6 pins are and above the F6 key near where the magnetic strip is, there seems to be a slight bubble like the material is not glued down properly. Is it supposed to be that way for the flex cable or something in there? Can you all check your type cover and let me know? Thanks.

It seems to be normal. Mine has it as well. I didn't notice until you pointed it out, but it's there. I'm pretty sure it's a ribbon cable to the connector.

Does the pen work? Mine keeps saying NOT CONNECTED. It will open OneNote with the button but will not write in OneNote.

I had the same problem, I turned Bluetooth Off than On again and it started working! Strange, I know, but it worked for me.

Its been on every type/touch cover I've ever seen. Very normal.

I must say, I didn't think id want one until I played with it at work and now I'm trying to find money to buy one lol. I need it NOW!!

I have a question. Will it run Virtual Box well? Lets say you run a Windows 7 VM. I'm thinking about the SP3 for my IT department and need to know if it will run VMs for testing.

I am thinking of getting one for large screen reading

Any chance you got post some pics of how scientific PDFs and magazine look in portrait?

e.g.

Thanks

Reading in portrait works very well, with minimal wasted screen space.

Landscape reading works very well also when viewing two pages at a time. Text is very readable and not too small, and both pages take up nearly the whole screen.

I have not personally used a VM on the pro 3; however, I have a friend who does on the pro 2, and it seems to work great. Its a full PC, you can pretty much do literally anything on it.

It should considering that it is a full Windows 8 OS. I just installed VMware Workstation, not exactly the same product that you have but will report back later. I am going to migrate a couple of VMs from a MacBook Pro Fusion.

Thanks. The reason I ask is that it's only a dual-core mobile version of the Core series. I'm curious if it has enough horse-power to run a VM or two simultaneously. With 8GB of RAM, I could probably run a server and client in a VM for testing at the same time (server, 4GB, client, 2GB, leaving 2GB for the Surface). I'm just concerned the dual-core will struggle running everything.
