I have a Logitech Mini-Boombox which is BT 2.1. It works great with all my devices except my phone which according to specs is BT 4.0.

The phone shows it as an "Accessory", it does not actually display "MiniBoombox" like other devices do and when I try to pair I get an error that it failed.

So as title says, is BT supposed to be backward compatible on this phone ?

It should be, yes.

Is the speaker still paired with something else, even if the pairing is not actively connected?

Maybe you need to reset the speaker so it will take a fresh pairing? I can't find out how many pairings the Logitech will hold...

I finally got it. The problem was I was too quick in clicking to pair as soon as the boombox showed up as "accessory". I tried waiting to see if it would show up as "mini boombox". It took nearly a minute but it finally did and from there it paired flawlessly.
