I am thinking to buy Microsoft 650.
But reviews are criticizing this phone saying it is using outdated chipset.
Does this phone really need 2GB RAM to run apps smoothly?
I believe 1GB is enough to run the phone smoothly without any apps.

If Microsoft can launch Surface devices, will they launch budget phones? (It is not much important question)

It's a very good phone for it's price-point. I had one for a while and didn't see anything to complain about.

First of all... lol to the critics :winktongue:

MS isn't exactly known for throwing the latest and greatest chipsets into their phones and the 650 is just following that tradition.

The phone has a SD 212 which for today's standards is pretty low, but in the end it depends on what you want/need the phone for?

Simple calls/texting/IM/gaming will be just fine, but you could notice the phone bogging down a bit when trying to multitask. Doesn't have the latest and greatest SD, right?

The windows mobile OS doesn't need a minimum of 2GB RAM (looking at you droids) to run it's OS smoothly. 1GB of RAM does the job, but 2 wouldn't hurt (you know... for a bit of extra oomph)

Overall I really like the design of the 650.. throw in the 8mp/5mp camera combo/Micro SD card slot and it seems like a good deal to me :)

PS... don't always listen to critics, but do keep in mind what you're signing up for when buying a Windows Mobile :winktongue:

I'm a happy 650 user, smooth like silk, excellent quality / price ratio.

Don't read payed criticizies, SD212 is a new cpu faster than old SD400 (Lumia 640) with less battery drain.
And apps goes well (except the usual BAD apps, like Whatsapp... but the culprit is not Windows >.< )

When MS will launch Surface Phone (one year or two), there will be the end of budget line, too much Android monopoly for gaining $ per each device sold in the low / mid level with full brand new devices. Only 3rd party should

I don't know much about the hardwares. That is why i asked this question here. You are all telling 650 is a good phone.
I am inspired by the look of the 650.

I wanted 4.7 inch phone and planned to buy 550. Read lot of negative reviews for this phone too.
Can i buy 550 or 650?

IMHO if your budget support it, buy the better you can. I did that.
And 550 DOESN'T got a real OLED screen. After got it on 650, I'll never buy a phone in future without a OLED screen.
No more IPS in my life, OLED is far beyond (Galaxies use it....)

I think Samsung is using Super Active Matrix OLED on their devices. I will buy 650

They OWN oled prduction lines, so they can use from full HD to 4HD Oleds at reasonable prices.

650 is a 279 ppi 5" OLED, excellent for daily use even under direct sunlight (crystal back or something like that)

for about 60$ i would highly recommend it, but for now my vote goes to 640, kind of ironic how that one could potentially have more cpu power and be allowed to run newer w10 builds down the line, only con is that LCD instead of amoled

for anyone trying to justify microsoft's history of using underpowered chipsets because of wp, thats no longer a reasonable excuse, w10m is such a mess that even android looks optimized in comparison, you better look at specs carefully if you want w10m on your phone

What is the SAR value of this phone?
Is anyone using Android apart from windows phone?

I've just won a 650, one year after having won a 640 lol. I still consider the 640 to be a more perfect device, the 650 feeling more like an upgrade to the 535 and not 640. No magnotemeter for instance, it's a shame. But then the screen is great, looks as well, and if you were hesitating between 550 and 650, go for the 650. I've had a 550 in hands, it's really low-end.

The 650 has replaced my secondary device to test Fast Insider builds, and wow, it's fast, no lags, absolutely love it.

My only complain is that i've won a black device, I'd have liked to get the white one, but then, it's a gift, so I don?t complain lol ^^

You won 640 and 650! :) Congratulations!!
If 640 is still better than 650, then what are the reasons for 650 to be bought?

Higher internal memory also. Don't bank on too much hope in sd card. 32 gb min would be better.

650 supports till 256 GB u-fast cards.
That's enough buyin not a too much commercial one (high probability of counterfeit card)

I bought a Lexar UHD-1 , cheap and faster.

As I said, screen is (a lot) better, as Maurizio said also, expect firmware updates for the 650 (640 won't receive new ones according to me). Plus the looks : looks better, is lighter, and 16GB internal vs 8GB for the 640 IIRC.

Oh and 650 is now beating the 640 because its price has dropped (220 € was way too high when it was released)

And also the 650 can do NFC payments while it is unclear whether the 640 will be certified. (at least in the US)

I changed my mind. Many users in amazon have given negative review for this model. They say it lags a bit after installing apps. I have ordered 950 instead. I hope MS will provide good support for their devices. I never wanted to spend that much money on mobiles. But i had no option this time with windows phone.

You are only supporting this device the most. Amazon users have given many negative review for the price and performance. I think i should either take a risk and buy this phone or go for 950.

Well I looked at Amazon and it looks like normal reviews for me, with mixed to positive as with most.

And be careful since you're paying significantly more for the 950 and Windows 10 Mobile may not be any better on the more powerful hardware. Especially since I believe the 950 has its own share of negative reviews probably.

:(

Sir, I am highly confused. One star is more than 5 stars.
So Microsoft has given me only one option. Just 650 :)
[ I just removed 950 from my cart. ] I don't know about windows 10. But it is not good idea for me spending much money on mobiles. I don't have much usage.

I will tell my opinion of 650 in few days after receiving it.
