It will be interesting to see of all of the iPhone 5 issues lead to people switching

I think I'm the weird one. I have invested a fair bit in Apple, owning an MBP and iPod Touch 4th Gen, having owned a MacBook and iPod Touch 2nd Gen. Yet I own an Android tablet and Windows Phone, plus a Windows 7 PC with Ubuntu. Yet apparently I'm a WP ******...

I also couldn't help myself so I ordered a Lumia 610 yesterday from an online retailer. It was dirtcheap, only 139? unlocked! Thought I'd get it just so I could familiarize myself with WP. I'll just give it to my girlfriend when the "real" WP8 handsets starts popping over here. She'll be thrilled when she'll get it considering the pretty low-end Nokia she has at the moment.:D I'm so clever...
Yo playa ;)

Honestly other then the Maps fiasco, what other major issues does the iPhone 5 have? Reviews are pretty much 9/10 across the board on sites like The Verge.

Um, the Verge is the most biased site I have ever been to. They are worst than some pure Apple sites.

That said here is the list.

-Maps
-scuffs and dents from normal use after one weekend
-severe purple fringing in the camera
-static lines across the keyboard
- some touch screen responsiveness issues
- Occasional freezing for a few seconds

Here is a pic of someone's that came bent. He says the box was in great shape, but the phone was bent. The apple store wouldn't return it for him even though it had all the stickers still on it. They accused him of doing it himself. Verizon sent him to the Apple store but they still wouldn't help. So far the Apple phone support hasn't helped him either.

Really? That is horrible. The 400% markup and 100 billion in the bank should easily allow them to cover the spread on situations like these. You can drop them and they replace them if you are lucky before. You should be literally able to wipe your *** with an iphone and exchange it with those high Apple tax dollars.

Looks like they just tax now and refuse to pay out. Damn Apple.

DAFUQ? That's horrible... And apparently he bent it himself within seconds of him opening the box... Wow... poor customer service. They're basically the Anti-Robin-Hood. Steal from the poor and give to the rich...

apple probably pushed their release date up to make sure they beat a WP8 launch. With no WP8 available for atleast another 1and1/2 months there is nothing for a new 5 owner to switch to. and as far as the quality issues, if you have a dissatisfied workforce and don't take care of them they won't care how they handle ,assemble and pack the product

They definitely pushed the release date up because I don't think they ever launched a month early before. The 4s isn't even a year old yet and that is uncharacteristic of Apple. I think it has very little to do with Windows though.

They were losing too many sales to the GS3 and screwing up WP8 was just a bonus.

Some acquaintances of mine who are more in the know in terms of Apple products are saying that some people in Apple's customer service are saying it's a supplier problem. There are also rumors that are suggesting that workers deliberately sabotaged the phones.

No it will not be about any Apple stumbles.

The selling point for Windows Phones are - great new hardware(Nokia Lumia 920, HTC 8x), the OS:

live tiles(customizable), pinnable content, Me hub, People hub, Wallet hub(NFC), Music + Videos hub, XBox Live, alphabetical app list with jump list, speech-controlled apps(Audible), high-end games(Unreal engine coming soon) and enterprise-ready for businesses

Of course its not Apple's fault. They never accept blame. They just direct you to look somewhere else or do something different. They claimed maps was user based so the more people use it, the more "right" it will become. So no one use maps to get anywhere first. Let someone else get lost before you take that route. Pretty sure that no amount of people on the tarmac at Toronto airport will fix the ground flatness.

You're holding it wrong. It's the way aluminum works. Maps will get better if you use it more. Hahaha, they might as well go tell their users to go **** themselves.

At least Nokia had the decency to say "yeah out fault, were working on a fix" and give something to the users. [100 greenbacks]

Like addman, I just grabbed a Nokia 610 off contract to get familiar with the platform. I have shown the phone off to a lot of folks and their reactions have been very favourable. It's cool to see the looks on their faces when I tell them about the specs on the phone and the price of the device. This device will keep me happy until the BB contract is done - then it's a 920 for me.:D

"Of course the issue is only affected a small percentage of users. We have 1000 trillion happy users who never complain but we will of course offer a free case program to all users because we are just so generous. Of course its not our fault and this isn't a recall"

I don't see the general ios community letting these problems affect their day to day use enough to switch phones. Either they won't notice or they don't care strongly enough to move to another platform

I know a couple of 4S users considering a switch, but they're looking at the Galaxy S III. WP isn't a factor for them (especially since there's no pricing nor availability). And even then, they're still tempted to go with what's familiar.

This. Android is the obvious choice for consumers switching away from the iPhone, not Windows Phone. It's got a competitive (app) ecosystem and big mind share.
