Hi,

I downgraded my WP 8.1 preview phone to WP 8.x but then decided to upgrade to WP 8.1 preview GDR 1 earlier today.
My camera works fine with 8.x but with WP 8.1 preview or WP 8.1 preview + GDR1 the camera app
crashes (camera does not work) and Nokia Maps keep crashing. Has anyone heard about this problem?
Phone works great with WP 8.x and has Lumia Black installed.

Try restarting the phone. Clearing the temp files, and clearing the map data, and then restarting again.

Are you using built in camera or Nokia camera?

I have a 1020 also with Black and GDR1 and no problem.

My 1020 is working just fine with the update. Hmm Yeah I suggest reset of the phone as well. Start with just restarting the phone if that doesn't work hopefully a reset isn't needed.

codynunes: i have tested various camera software. Nokia Camera, Nokia Camera Beta, "Stock Camera" applications, 6tag camera etc. Camera is dead with WP 8.1 preview or WP 8.1 preview + GDR1. However before i downgraded WP 8.1 preview camera worked in preview mode. Seems to be a very weird issue.

Clemeleon: I used Nokia Software Recovery Tool to downgrade to 8.x. But when trying to get back on WP 8.1 preview camera hangs. Works great on 8.x but not on 8.1 preview or 8.1 preview GDR1.
I hoped that upgrading to GDR1 would solve my camera issue but it dident. I am doing a fresh install now. See post above. Maybe you could tell me what I am doing wrong?

Native camera app is working fine (both photos and videos) on my Lumia 1020.
However, Nokia Pro Cam is not shooting videos only taking pictures after Update 1.

I'm doing a complete fresh install as I am writing this Clemeleon. I downgraded the GDR1 once again to 8.x using Nokia Software Reovery Tool. Phone is fresh, without lots of crap apps. Now trying to update it but I expect the same problem will occur again. Thought this issue had something to do with the delay of LUMIA CYAN?

Just tested it again and video is back and working fine.
This now counts as no problems with Update 1.
I am loving live folders

I have now done a fresh Windows 8.1 installation and Nokia Camera, Nokia Camera Beta and Camera just opens then closes.
Camera is not working. Anyone have a solution to this?

Camera worked with: 8.0.10532.166
Camera does not work with: 8.10.12382.878

Since you are doing a fresh install, maybe try the camera app after every update. Also if it works in 8.1, maybe try a hard reset (in the phone, not by Recovery software) and then upgrade to GDR1 once you finish fully setting up the phone (restoring all apps and settings). You can also try going all the way to GDR1 and then do the hard reset.

To do a hard reset, go to "about" in settings. Then click "more info" and then press the "reset your phone" button.

Keep us posted on the results of each route you take, there maybe someone else having the same problem. Like I said, I did a hard reset after 8.1 and then just upgraded to GDR1 this morning, and I have no problems. I did notice in FB messenger that Caps Lock would not stay on, but that was fixed with a reboot of the phone.

Microsoft and Nokia-soft (since it's now owned by Microsoft) have helped me pretty much with any problem I have had. They put that limit because software-wise you won't get much support, because the support teams are not fully aware of the problems of the preview software. Also, it is just a liability thing. If you do have any software problems with your phone, though, you can just downgrade to the appropriate version (pre-Developer Preview) and then get the support you need.

codynunes i will try a hard reset once i have GDR 1 installed if camera keeps hanging. My device works great with WP 8.x, no issues with camera at all. Take excellent pictures. But it seems WP 8.1 misses to load the camera driver somewhere during installation as all applications that requires camera does not work properly. Very werid... I can not be the only one with this problem. Maybe this has something to do with CYAN being delayed for Lumia 1020? I will keep on posthing in this thread and send it to Nokia for feedback.

I have updated to 8.10.14147.180 but HERE Maps crashes (app opens then auto closes) but Microsoft MAPS and HERE DRIVE+ works.
Nokia Camera, Nokia Camera Beta and CAMERA crashes (app opens then auto closes).

Phone shut down / rebooted 5 times. Still not working...

There might be an easier solution than a hard reset / downgrade...

My 1020 updated perfectly, and everything seems to be working correctly now everything has re-installed.

My 520 wasn't quite so smooth... It appeared to update OK, but when poking around I noticed that neither Whatsapp or Nokia Camera would open... Simply solved this by uninstalling both apps, and re-downloading them from the WP Store. Hope this helps, worth a try at least!

I am doing a hard reset with WP 8.1 preview + GDR 1. Lets see if the camera works now. Tried to reboot the phone before without any luck. Nokia Camera / Nokia Camera Beta was updated in store before hard reset. Do you hear a camera sound when you power up your phone? I think i heard a camera sound when i powered up my phone with 8.0 but no sound with 8.1.

Since you are doing a fresh install, maybe try the camera app after every update. Also if it works in 8.1, maybe try a hard reset (in the phone, not by Recovery software) and then upgrade to GDR1 once you finish fully setting up the phone (restoring all apps and settings). I did a hard reset with 8.10.14147.180 and selected Next on everything.
Phone rebooted and when checking version phone says 8.10.14147.180
and Software: Windows Phone 8.1 Update. When trying to start "Camera"
application it just closes.

My camera does not work with Windows 8.1. Anyone have a solution to this?

Both my 1020 and 520 auto-updated a load of stuff after the upgrade to Dev Preview 8.1 Update. (Neither have Cyan btw), but this didn't solve the camera problem on the 520... I actually had to completely remove the Nokia Camera app and re-download/install before it would work. All OK now. Strangely didn't have any problems with the 1020 at all.
