What did I miss- what specific reliable source says Friday?
You missed nothing. It's all just speculation at this point. The hangers have been in place since the 14th, and several people have been told that the device is on order. Friday is typically when new tech is released, so why not this Friday? Doesn't hurt to check. :)

Edit: Summer starts on June 21, and T-Mobile has said the 640 would arrive in the Spring. So at the latest it will arrive in three weeks.

If you look at metropcs dot com/content/metro/en/desktop/metro/microsoft-lumia-640.html it does say Summer 2015...but hopefully it will come out when the sweepstakes ends on 6/15.

Although the model number, 640, is lower than the older flagship/almost flagship numbers like 925, by feature it is at least as good as the 925, possibly the worst phone Nokia ever made. (I've had three different IMEI's and even after five? trips to Customer We-Don't-Care, none of them connect reliably. Sometimes not even with the TMO booster 15 feet away!)

The 640 is loaded with features at the old 521 type pricing. I don't need/want a 43mp camera, a giant screen, or a processor speed that I'll never use. What we do get with the 640, besides an astoundingly low price, is a flash, removable microSD and battery (again, another issue with the 925), three 700mhz LTE bands and HD voice, WFC, FM radio, and lots of bluetooth types.

It's as much "flagship" as I need. YMMV, but then I don't have much ego and think that I don't need whatever is newer or allegedly "best."

The MetroPCS 640 page is up for pre-registration, wasn't there a few days ago. On the official MS 640 page, buried in the footnotes, it mentions, Cricket, TMO, and Metro by name. I wonder why ATT is bypassing this model?

My wife has the L925 on T-Mobile and loves it. its been rock solid and a great phone but I agree on the lack of a removable battery and no SD card is a minus. Awesome camera though and screen. love the aluminum design. Cant wait to get the 640 for me to upgrade my 521.

Also B&H said that the expected date of availability is Friday too, so there's that. That's for their unlocked one though, that does work on T-mo's network.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Actually...I do know what retort means, and used that word simply to draw out grammar nazis - such as yourself. I love to misuse a word when arguing on the internet. Yes, "rebut" would be acceptable, but "retort" probably made you lose some sleep.:amaze:

For anyone posting here about troubles with a 925, sorry to hear that! Mine has been a fantastic phone for me. "Your mileage may vary", I guess...
I am foregoing the 640 in favor of waiting for a flagship later this year, with fingers crossed that I can get an unlocked but compatible version, because I am not holding my breath on Tmo offering it. But even I am annoyed at the delay on the 640, it's really just ridiculous at this point.

But I would guess it doesn't have Wifi Calling.
I used be really hot on unlocked phones. Now, not so much. An unlocked GSM phone can only be used on TMO and ATT networks or their subsidiaries or VMNO's, and I don't plan on leaving my Harbor Mobile (TMO Business) anytime soon.

I never traveled much, but did get a TelCel number for my "B" line on a Nokia once upon an ancient time. Very cheap. Now, with all kinds of options to roam, including Wifi Calling, not so critical.

...and I think NadaAddict's answer, IF he's telling the truth then he's...doing stuff against WC rules.... ie, baiting you ;-)

Yeah, I would love to have Wifi calling, but with StraightTalk offering unlimited voice, text and 5GB(!) of 4G data for $45, I can't justify paying for TMO.

Wifi calling for me, has been a worse-than-mixed bag. I drop more calls on Wifi calling than I do with a weak signal anywhere.

Walmart near me had the "bring this card to the counter to purchase this" card for the 640 today. None in stock, though. They said they get phone shipments in every day, they just don't know what phones they're getting in each one. So, will try again tomorrow!

Hey, does anyone know if Wireless Charging will be supported? It's an important feature since I've been using the 925.

My 635 has WiFi Calling, so I don't know why the 640 wouldn't.

Well, I could point out that the 810 was completely bypassed for WFC, even though the lowly 521 got it.

Anyway, go to TM's page on the 640 and it lists WFC. No guesswork required. I think WFC is now madatory on all the phones that they will carry. Sorry of a marketing badge.

I never buy flagship phones. I could afford to buy one if I wanted but i've never seen the justification of paying several hundred dollars when a $100-200 one will do everything I need, especially if I have to get two. The only reason I would consider a flagship is for the better camera but even then cameras are good enough now on low end devices for my purposes. I have read where phone enthusiasts get upset when a phone doesn't have a high PPI screen yet I've never felt the WVGA screens of my phones were unreadable. I did have a problem with the 521 being unviewable in bright sunlight though. I hope the 640 doesn't suffer the same problem although so far I haven't read that it does.

Also what is it with mobile service providers only carrying one model and not the other? Why should I have to go to two different companies depending on whether I want the 640 or the 640XL. This model exclusivity annoys me. Wanting a better camera, cpu, etc is one thing, but what if I just wanted a larger screen for easier viewing? Of course I know why they do it.
