Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I may have spoke too soon. During my last post, my battery was 82% and showed 1 day and 5 hours left. Now I'm at 75% and have 5 hours left.

99% of these sound like firmware issues. Comes with the territory of a brand new OS. Doesn't excuse it though. Point is, expect a pretty significant update or series of updates that should alleviate the vast majority of these issues.

Curious on why some are having great battery and others are not on same firmware. Seems like 50\50

My battery just dropped 8% in 30 min without me even touching the phone.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I think the battery % being displayed is all jacked up. My phones been running for a week straight and then this morning I watched it go from 82-81-78 back to 82. The battery has seen enough discharge and recharge to level itself out already, so its gotta be a software thing at this point, IMHO.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Yes, this battery or OS optimization is terrible. I really like the UI but if I can only have the phone for 9 hours on moderate use then i think I'd be better off returning it and getting something that can last me an actual day. Ill see how long it lasts me today, hopefully the battery life gets better.

Personally, I made sure I watch what is running in the background. I made sure certain apps are disabled from running in the background, like the Nokia Drive +. I also turned on battery saver feature which seems to help a little.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Probably the two things that have extended my battery life the most are disabling Whatsapp and Wifi. First I disabled Wifi and my battery remaining % didn't move from where it was for about 5 hours. Then, I moved Whatsapp to another phone and then after unplugging it from the charger, I re-enabled Wifi. After 5 hours my battery is at 87% with 2 days+ remaining. Another app that completely demolishes my battery life is Wordament.

Nokia haven't even acknowledged that there is a major battery issue with 920's. They blame it on the background apps such as Nokia Drive.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

After 6 days of great battery life that would last me the entire day with average use, I am somehow at 16% at 2pm after taking it off the charger at 8am. I spent 2 hours listening to podcasts 15 minutes web browsing, and 15 minutes watching a video I recorded last night. I have WiFi on, Bluetooth off, NFC off, and Nokia Drive is not running.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I shared this in the Bug/Defect sticky thread, but I figured I'd post it here too...

Well, today I just had my first battery/heat issue on my 920. Was streaming Vevo videos for about 30 minutes and playing them through the AUX jack in my car and the phone got uncomfortably hot and the battery drained from 100% to 41% in just 25-30 minutes. Admittedly this is pretty heavy use, LTE data + Video + Audio, but this isn't normal.Since I stopped the battery has drained from 41% to 36% in the 15 minutes since shutting everything off and leaving it alone. Odds are it will be dead in 90 minutes of standby time.

In the past 23 minutes I've gone from 16% down to 9%. Battery saver was. The only thing I did was restart my phone. Not since last Saturday have I had my phone drain so quick. Even last night I used Nokia Drive to go downtown, listen to music, take pictures, and record an 8 minute video at 1080p and I still had 40% at the end of the night.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

If you're experiencing sudden, rapid battery drain when ordinarily your battery does fine, I'd suggest a simple reboot. This should presumably turn off whatever radio or process is running rampant in the background.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Has anyone started a similar thread on Nokia's support boards and Microsoft's Win Phone board/blog ? Everyone here has done a great job at describing their usage, but I don't think its helping if Nokia/Microsoft don't know about it..

So I think idle power consumption is very important, so is there an app that would let you see the actual battery usage in real time ? That way we can see the idle usage in terms of mA ..
I have it on my Symbian devices, and I know its possible on android..

My EKA2 device idles at around 8mA with couple of system apps open and Wi-Fi turned off, it will be really nice to know the idle usage in WP8 without any background apps running, and then you can actually test each app and see how it performs.

I also did a 10 min run with Nokia Drive actually running(GPS and mobile data transmitting), and with the screen off.. this is what I got:

Those are @ 0.25 second measurement periods

I did start a thread over at Nokia, and even chatted with Nokia in one of their live chats.

Sadly both were pointless.

The forum replies pretty much consisted of...you are doing something wrong. I stated very clearly that something was wrong and that my battery saver was going nuts and changing every 30 minutes, which got the reply that I was checking my phone too often. Last I checked turning on a screens phone twice an hour wasn't a problem.

Chatting with the Nokia rep consisted of them saying turn of Nokia drive.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

I sincerely hope a PM at MS and Nokia are browsing places like this to understand the users experiences. Obviously the Nokia forum is next to useless as is the MS one.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Just got my phone last night at 5:00 p.m. it died at around 8:30.. full charge took about 1 hour and I turned it off for the night. I turned it back on at 9:30 and it's still going strong until now. 25% battery life right now. I did change my settings to low and turned off all background applications while my phone is on stand-by.

Re: lumia 920 Battery Issues

Exactly the same for me. I pulled my Nokia 920 off the charger at 1:25am last night when I went to bed; battery was 100%, no apps running. I woke up at 8am with a dead phone: the battery had completely discharged overnight.

Okay, that's pretty pathetic for a one-week-old phone. Today I Blocked all apps from running in the background and switched on Battery Saver mode. I charged the phone back to 100%. Casual usage--that is, one 30-second phone call, a few web pages, ten minutes of watching a game of chess online--and I'm struggling to keep the battery above 50%. I've seen it drop 15% in the space of five minutes.

I've now turned off NFC, having heard that might be a problem. At what point, though, is the phone's neat little feature set completely useless because I can't rely on the damned thing to be functional?

It's got about a week to start holding a charge, or it's back to AT&T. Right now I can't believe I waited for so long, excitedly, for this heavy, bulky brick of a useless lump.
