"make sure bluetooth is on and your phone is close by"

Hi,

I had this issue yesterday on a Lumia 1520, Win10.
After factory resetting the band, I was not able to add it again to the phone (I followed instructions for factory reset).
And the Band Sync desktop app was telling me that the band should be factory-reset before being able to access it...

However, I was able to add the band to an Android phone. And after that, I was able to factory-reset it again from its settings menu.
I also had to unistall the MSHealth app, and restart the phone (restarting is mandatory). Then, reinstall the app, and it worked (the app said it would replace my current Band, but that's OK).

Hope this helps...

I'm actually having this issue too. I'm on .63 and I have a Band 2 and I was getting the "make sure Bluetooth is on, phone nearby" when using Cortana and trying to reply to texts so I took the suggestion of resetting to factory the Band and re-adding it. When pairing the phone with MS Health app I get to the point where they pair, you accept the pairing on both devices, the Band says success but the phone just spins with the Cardinal on the screen then says unable to pair, even though it already did. With that said my Band is not functional. Thoughts? I have uninstalled the MS Health app also, basically started new and no .

It does not matter if you have the Cortana tile; I've always had it on there. Every time I get a text, I try responding with keyboard on my Band 2. Last night, once, it actually worked. But that was once out of about 100 tries, and today it's right back to no joy. And long-pressing Action Button to use Cortana has never worked since I started using W10Mobile. Microsoft, good god, why do you always break the nice features you come out with? AT&T Lumia 950 on Fast Insider, but not latest firmware (thanks AT&T/MS).

That's exactly the case I was in: factory reset of the band, and try to pair devices again. Bluetooth connection would pair both devices, the band would say success, but the phone was just waiting, until the error "unable to pair" was displayed.
It seems the error is related to the band being also linked with the MS account. What I did is that I paired the Band with another device (Android phone), this worked on the first try. Then I did a factory reset of the band (which cannot be done before pairing it...), uninstall the app on the windows phone, unpaired the band in the bluetooth settings, restarted the phone, reinstalled the app, and repaired the band with the phone. At that point the phone said that pairing the band would replace the old one from my MS account (the one paired using the Android), I accepted, and it worked.

Yes, you're right.
However, I had the following issue in the same time, that for some reason was blocking me from being able to factory reset by hardware method:
see thread "and just like that my band is dead (not charging)" in this forum

So I did a hard reset of my phone yesterday and a hard reset on my band. The phone is on Build .63 WITHOUT the latest firmware (DAMN YOU ATT!) But, all of my Cortana and keyboard connectivity issues seem to be resolved.

You can factory reset your Band by holding both hardware buttons down for about 10 seconds.

That disconnects the battery, which may solve some issues, but nothing is reset. Factory Reset can only be initiated through the settings menu.

Holding both buttons down after pairing fixed Cortana and the Band 2 issue. Wait for the screen to turn red and reboot. I am using latest Insider Build and latest Band 2 Firmware. I did not have to reinstall Health App.

Verizon Icon- Windows 10 Mobile.

Same here, well done Microsoft! I honestly thought you guys were going to let this slide, but I'm glad to see you fixed it. So far Cortana is working every time on my Lumia 950 since installing the latest .71 Win10M build.

This did not fix the issue for me with my 950. I'm on .71 and have the latest Microsoft Health update that was pushed last night with the latest Band 2 Firmware. Does uninstalling Health and reinstalling fix the issue?

I was expecting the 10586.71 update and the recent MS Health updates to FINALLY address the the cortana bluetooth connection issue. But I was wrong. Still getting "make sure bluetooth is on and your phone is close by" No change at all.

I did not factory reset my band, because frankly I shouldn't have to, and I already have done this about 6 times every time an update has been pushed out. It's always the same story, cortana works for a day or two after factory restore then stops. I will note that I have had my band replaced, and that I'm using a 1520.

Going on nearly 4 months since the band was released and it's still not working with windows 10.

I think I figured it out! Delete the band from your list of Bluetooth devices. Then restart your phone and your band. Then go into settings, Bluetooth, and then on your band go to settings and Bluetooth, pairing. When it says "connect to iPhone?" click no. Then it will show as pairing and on your phone in settings, Bluetooth, it should pop up and you should have to accept the Bluetooth code again. After you do that, everything should work perfectly. At least it did for me on my lumia Icon with .71 and the yesterday's update on my band.

I tried this twice on my 950. Sadly, it didn't work at all. I can't believe how broken this thing is with the 950. I use it more for a smartphone accessory than a fitness tracker and I think its worked properly for that purpose for a total of 3 days since I got it at Christmas. Seriously considering returning it.

The weird thing is that it worked for about 2 hours and just stopped working all of a sudden. Now it doesn't work. Haha
