Moving day

Thank you very much guys! These last 4-5 posts have easily cleared up any unfaithful thoughts that was boiling my lust for moaaar! I guess what I get from WP is more than enough rather than wasting money and having an affair, I'll pimp up my Microsoft family by saving a little more for Surface Pro 2 or Lumia 2520 this Xmas! :D

I'm looking at the 2520 myself. It's been suggested to me no tablet purchases before Christmas this year. The only problem is can I afford it after the divorce.

Maybe it's just me being lucky, but I don't understand all the complaints about WhatsApp, unless the WP8 version is really bad compared to the WP7.x version. I've had WhatsApp on BBOS and have it on WP7.x, and I never have any issues with notifications. I've used it to chat with people in Canada and India not just those in US, and they never complained about it either (various platform contacts have it). I even belong to a WhatsApp group made up of people originally from a BBM group. I don't recall any of my WhatsApp contacts on any platform complaining about WhatsApp. My suspicion is that many complainers probably have a crappy data connection, whether mobile data or WiFi. Crappy data connection would explain the battery draining from WhatsApp, in addition to the lack of notifications. Anytime data connection is bad, that will drain battery.

But Augie is right that the forum complaints, especially about WhatsApp aren't limited to this site. CB, AC and iMore also have a lot of WhatsApp complaints if one searches those forums. I don't know if webOS ever had WhatsApp.

Personally for me whatsapp is at the best version than it has ever been. But I run a Nokia 808 Symbian as spare phone and whatsapp on that phone is miles ahead. It feels reliable. Also small things like removing that annoying vibration when you get two msgs at the same time, that annoying pop up, lack of custom bubble colours in group chats - leads to a feeling of inferior experience when you know even a 2 yr old Symbian has a better client on it.

I guess WP8.1 has to be what we wanted Mango to be and some more to at least feel like developers have a chance to do more!

If I was to buy a tablet, the 2520 is the one I'd get.

I have to say I'm very pleased with my Surface RT, and wouldn't hesitate to get a Surface 2. But curiosity has me wanting to look at the 2520 at least. I'll probably compare it with the Surface 2 and go from there. Once I get off electronic probation after the holidays!

Now that I've settled into my 920 I'm no longer interested in newer phones. However, as much as I like my 920, I often consider ditching it for a cheaper 520 (or the upcoming 525). Honestly, I'm getting a bit tired of the race of having "the latest phone, with the best service, at the fastest LTE speeds!" I'm paying AT&T $138 a month. I have two lines so that's about $69 a line, so not bad all things considered. Still, I don't feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

I only have 1GB of data on their mobile share plan. WiFi tethering comes for free which definitely came in handy this past week, but at 1GB I have to be super careful not to watch any videos or visit graphic heavy webpages. I have all this LTE coverage and I'm terrified to use it. I thought about upping my data cap but all I'm doing is encouraging AT&T to stick with their ridiculous pricing model. So why bother at all, right? I only have to tether a few times a year. The data cap means I don't watch videos or stream music thus wasting my LTE. And unless someone lives in the sticks then voice calls are pretty standard across carriers.

I honestly don't see why I haven't switched to T-Mobile yet. Their 4G/LTE coverage out here isn't the best, but considering all of AT&T's restrictions, I wouldn't even notice the difference. I could sign up for T-Mobile's basic 2-line family plan and (after taxes) save about $50 a month, $600 a year, while also getting similar service. My two main concerns are voice calls for the missus and MMS for me. T-Mobile should handle that just fine. Unfortunately that means paying AT&T a $225 ETF and also having to buy two new phones, because heaven forbid AT&T and T-Mobile all supported the same GSM bands for 4G/LTE. >.<

LTE Speed test with my Nexus 5. It basically doubled what I was getting with 3G+ on my Nexus 4

I was just jumping in here to say Surface 2...lol

Rock if it makes you feel any better I have traded my Note 3 for an iPhone 5s which I am currently trying to sell or trade so I can get a surface pro..

Posting this from my L925

PS- I still need a 1520

Dave, how do you like typing on the iPhone?

I have big hands for a woman, but most men have bigger hands than me. Even without the blessing or curse of Autocorrect, I have a hard time typing on iPhones. I need something wider than the iPhone, since I prefer typing in portrait mode rather than landscape mode.

Now that you are all settled in with your new Nexus 5, please tell me what it does better than other droids or WP?

LOL! Nothing.

Also, what is that fuss about BBM and no lags business - all true?

I don't load much on my phone. A couple of apps, a couple of games and a couple of songs. I know people are always screaming I need 64GB or 128GB storage for all my songs. I could get by with 500MB of storage.

I have Directv but kept Fios for my internet. While the speeds are good. There are times like this morning when my phone is twice as fast as my wireless in the house.

The speed we are getting with LTE is almost as fast as you get in a Data Center.
