MS on WP8: "a few surprises still up our sleeves."

****, I agree. They probably need to get the current notifications system fixed before they start implementing new features to it.

I'm sure there are lots of little details that they haven't gotten around to revealing, but I seriously doubt that there is anything major left to reveal about WP8. By the time of the Nokia announcement Jellybean had already been released, and the iPhone 5 announcement was so close that Apple couldn't react to what MS showed, so there was no good reason to not show off to the world what WP8 could do, to maximize their chances of wowing the commentariat in advance of the Apple show. I think what we saw on the 920 is basically what we're getting. Anything they didn't show was because it was too buggy, but it's unlikely - that late in the development cycle - that there were any major features that were still too buggy to demo. By that point you're hammering out bugs in the fringes, not trying to get core features to work. By that point if something major isn't working then it's yanked, and bumped to the next release - e.g. cut&paste with WP7.0.

I'm not sure if what's left to reveal will be major or not, but WP8 went gold on Friday, two days after the iPhone 5 announcement. That means Microsoft was wrapping things up on WP8 when September 5th (Nokia's press conference) rolled in. I don't think Microsoft avoided to demo things because they were buggy. I honestly think they really want to wow us with a press conference dedicated to all the goodies of WP8.

They will at least need to match the new Apple iPhone 5's laser keyboard and holographic images! Start watching this "news" story at the 44 second mark for more information.

How about they give people who bought phones with Mango installed some type of buy back option. Nokia Lumia 900 people took one with no vaseline.

Yeah it be nice if Samsung, Nokia , HTC etc... did that... MS could give back the 15$ the OS cost lol

I think a lot of the minor details have yet to be announced along side I would suspect one or two major things we haven't heard about yet. Instagram could definitely be one.

Disagreed. I'd like to see answers on some of the following things:

-Bluetooth file transfer baked into the OS? An app for it?
-option to keep wifi on & connected?
-text message backup?
-what's replacing zune? what kind of features will this software have? for example, will i be able to text from my keyboard if i'm sitting at the computer?
-theme colors? what are we getting?
-file explorer?
-email improvements? not having to hit "get images" every time, etc.
-maps improvements? nokia map integration etc.
-photos improvements? cropping, lenses, selecting more than one at once for attachments, etc.
-people hub improvements? more networks, more people per group, tighter integration with live.com contacts
-calendar improvements? right now it's so bare bones, how about pinch to zoom to start, i can barely read the thing

Based on what we've seen, we know we're getting certain (new) features, like the credit card center, datasense, the new start screen, NFC etc. But Microsoft has not discussed the existing features and apps, and what kind of improvements they will bring.

I don't recall seeing anything on any of the above items, so if they were shown, i apologize. But what they've already announced is a good start, and those are mostly new features. I'm interested to see how they're going to improve upon the features that are already there. So yeah, they do have a lot left to show.

I've never seen RIM buy buck any phone. They sure didn't offer that when I had a Bold 900. That would be interesting though.

They did in Canada a phew years back ,

you had to go on their Website , fill info on your phone and they offered you $$ depending on model and condition of phone.

more OEMs should do this , just the recycling of phones alone would be worth it for them.

and some random company in the states started buying back Old Iphones too. ( not apple directly doh but still nice

I believe Apple does this too now through their Apple stores. It only makes sense to me. They can refurbish the phones and resell them as budget devices or to developing markets.

$100 discount on a new device like Googorola or ETF waiver would generate good press, drive sales and benefit the loyal user base.

I'm not actually expecting anything. But I bet no one thought that a less than a year old device would be a legacy thrown to the fire. But for me personally if they fix the me tile, fix the indoor camera quality, and give me that kick *** home screen, I'm good.

Not practical at all as this would open a can of worms. What happens in 6-12 months when there is an upgraded 920? Would they get exemptions as well? The 900 is still a solid device besides the camera. No shame in that phone.
