My screen stays black when i push the power button

I have the Surface RT, Windows 8.1 and for the past two months when the screen "sleeps"/ goes off after i haven't used it for a while or when i press the piwer button, it occasionally (almost always) stays black. It doesnt turn off but the whole screen is a lit up black.
If anyone knows what is wrong please help! Thanks in advance
