Needs SIM card to work on Verizon?

I got an Odyssey today, but it isn't activated on Verizon just yet. I went about setting up the phone, signing into accounts, getting apps, etc. before activating it. It keeps telling me it has no SIM card installed. Now, why in the world would a CDMA phone need a SIM card? Do I need a SIM card in this phone before I can use it on Verizon? I'm completely baffled by this.

Don't know for sure, sorry. I would call Verizon and ask them.

Sorry, if it's a LTE phone, yes it requires a SIM card.

Well, crap! Thanks for the replies, fellas. I was planning on using this phone on Page Plus. Unfortunately, it's not compatible due to the 4G LTE on this phone...Page Plus doesn't have that. Dang it! Back to eBay it goes...

It could be used for PagePlus, it just needs manually programmed and a bit of knowhow.

You need to dial ##366633# and click enable DM mode.
Then have them manually program with CDMA workshop or whatever tool they use.
