New to the WP world!

Hello, I just recieved my Lumia 920 today! Coming from a Galaxy Note 2 and being an android user for the past 4 years, I'm now happy to swtiched to WP.
So, for a new comer, any recommendation, tips/tricks?

Why is it that my phone keeps turning on when I try to charge it while it's switched off?

update your device to lumia black by going to phone updates in the settings. There is going to be another update called cyan that will give you windows phone 8.1 that will give you a notification centre, a swype keyboard, better multitasking, background images and loads of other improvements. Also check keep wifi when screen is off in the wifi settings. That will help out a lot. And welcome to the WP community.

nokia windows phones can't charge while being off for some reason. I know the htc windows phones can.

Welcome to the WP! There's a ton of info about the 920, just visit the 920 subforum. As far as the charging is concerned, wp devices cut on when they charge. Im not sure if this changes with the recent updates or not.

Welcome. The Lumia 920 is a solid phone...you will like it even more when Windows 8.1 comes out for it.

It's kind of scaring not being able to know if I'm connected to wifi immediately or not....

for some reason, the about page doesn't tell me if I have lumia black or what not. And they available updates are not detailed and don't tell me what I'm really downloading. Weird.

you would find that in the extras+info panel, not about.

I have searched around and found that officially I cannot migrate my whatsapp chats/media to my lumia. Is there any workaround?

Go to settings > extras+info > u will see whether its black or amber
