A while back the Chevron guys announced they were coming out with a cheap (< $10) unlock that was sanctioned by MS. It would allow you to do everything a dev unlock would do except for publishing apps in the marketplace. I haven't heard anything about it in a while, not sure what happened.

now we're complaining about colors now? I tend to adjust the colors based on the current season. since its fall I find myself switching between red and brown.

Have a look over on the XDA forum. Can't remember the specific thread I'm afraid, but it's a custom ROM with black nokia theme and some matching lockscreens

Ha ha, thanks, I found that. Looks like something I could figure out if I had about 2 weeks with nothing else to do. And an extra phone as backup.
