Nokia 635 call quality: why is sound harsh and hissy?

Hello.

I'm a long time Android user who has just got the Nokia 635... Noticed a few bugs which have been captured in other threads but not if the following behaviour on my handset is a fault or 'feature'...

When making calls the sound through the phone seems harsh and hissy... Much more noticeable with speech than holding music or similar.. S sounds are like hissing snakes! It sounds to me like the software is over processing the audio.. Tried a Nokia 520 running Windows 8 & didn't get the issue...

So a fault or just the way the handset sounds?

If you just got the 635, I would recommend getting it replaced if you do not notice this problem on a 520 or on your previous Android device.

Are you with AT&T?
Guessing because you have mentioned the 520.

I have the 635 on T-Mobile.
The sound quality in calls is very good on the cellular connection and even better over Wi-Fi.

May be a network problem.
Best to get in touch with your provider.

Sometimes a new SIM will also fix the problem. I've gotten new SIMs from AT&T already, due to poor call quality. They don't charge for replacing the SIM.
