So what exactly should Nokia be criticized for, fairly?

Absolutely nothing.

Maybe they would have put up the effort Nokia did if they got money from MS like Nokia did.

And thats all they did, hold the line while they gave their best efforts to android. Nokia came and supercharged WP and pushed it into the public eye, to the point their device was winning awards. Took the largest share of WP sales within months of coming onboard with marketing and promotions. Engaged developers and brought missing apps to the platform, some with exclusivity but most available to all after some time.





HTC and Samsung could have made this kind of effort before Nokia came along but they didnt, now somehow Nokia owes them something because they were making WP devices first? No, it doesnt matter how long HTC and Samsung have been MS partners, what matters is how much they have brought to the platform. Before today that has been very little. All the things Nokia has done has made them the number 1 WP OEM in consumers eyes, so on balance they have as much claim on the OS as any other OEM if not more because without Nokia and the absolute absence of any support from HTC and Samsung, WP would be dead right now.

What planet to companies not trash-talk each other. Isn't that what Apple's entire "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" ad campaign is? Isn't that exactly what Samsung's "the next big thing is already here" ad campaign is (making fun of iFanboys)? Don't car companies and beer companies do this ALL THE TIME?

MS should step in and prevent this, in the end its just Hurting WP in general.


1. people that want nokia but cant have it might just get a other OS.

2. People that Hate Nokia might not even get an other brand cause they figure the rest of the OS is not worth it with out all of Nokia`s *great* features.

hence hurting the OS.

I personally think Nokia is over rated, not like they have MIND blowing elements to bring to the table.... what? a superior Camera.... and a phew other *nokia apps* witch SO FAR is nothing special. Thats what they use to boost their own EGO?!?! :dry

My problem with Nokia is that they are talking up a phone that they are only making available to 30% of the US market. I don't know if there's really a lot of hate here. I want the 920, and if it came to Verizon I would probably get it over the 8X. But it's not happening, and I have no interest in the 820. I just don't understand what Nokia is doing here.

And I see a lot of people saying that it's not Nokia, it's Verizon's decision. Well, that just doesn't make sense to me. If that's the case, then why is the 820 coming to Verizon? Do you really think Verizon saw the 920 and said "forget this, give me that cheap phone that nobody is talking about!" It's pretty clear that Verizon is ready to support WP8. Nokia just refuses to give them their best phone.

To be fair, The Verge did ask Nokia for their opinion. It's not like Nokia went out of their way to post this. I'm not sure why they needed to bash HTC though.

Maybe Nokia is just feeling a bit threatened and insecure? Especially since they're all in with WP8 while it's just another OS to HTC.

Please dont try and play the card that everything Nokia is doing is purely because Microsoft is paying them. So why not just do your preorder and let Nokia do what they want? Its not as though people going into a store will suddenly think "ooh, Nokia bashed the 8X, musn't buy it". HTC produced good devices today and you can register for it, that really should be enough, shouldnt it?

It'll never be enough for certain people. It's like they want the world (or at least Nokia World) to profusely apologize for creating competition.

HTC said early November, on all three carriers, for $199.

As for why Microsoft is allying with HTC as well as Nokia, take a look at who has product ready to go, with pricing, and who doesn't.

The key to winning in the US mobile space is execution. Get those devices out ASAP on as many carriers as you can. HTC was able to do that while still delivering compelling hardware.

Over here in the UK, switching carriers is no big deal, alot of people do it at the end of their contracts to get the phones that they need. Carriers even expect it now so don't try and hang on to you that hard as for everyone that leaves, there is one who joins.

Its four major carriers that are available all over (sprint, T-Mobile, verizon, and at&t) but the signal strength may vary depending on who has coverage where. As far as getting out of contract, with any carrier in the US, you have to pay an early termination fee which is usually $200 or more if they charge by the line.

The bigger difference is that the UK is gsm only, so any device will work on any network so the switching costs for users are lower. Also multiple line (family) contracts are pretty rare here.
