Hi,

I have 4 quick settings configured: "WiFi", "Internet Sharing", "Airplane mode" and "Rotation lock".

When I tap the "Internet Sharing" quick setting. WiFi goes on too!
Read the text on the Internet Sharing configuration page:
"When Internet sharing is turned on, Wi-Fi or VPN can't be used. You can use them again when Internet sharing is turned off."

lol

Well how else would you share the internet if WiFi is off? But stating that WiFi cannot be used is because the phone becomes a hotspot.

its obvious

Using Mobile data???
I don't share my WiFi connections.
I share my LTE mobile data connection.

One more thing: If you go to "Settings > Internet sharing" and turn it on. The WiFi goes on automatically? Nope...
So...

Raphok, the only thing that "it's obvious" to me is that you don't know nothing...

What do you think the sharing happens via?

Re: Weird? Internet sharing activates WiFi....

How are you expecting client devices to connect to your phone to share the 3/4G connection? WiFi is on, but as a host not a client, so you can't use it from the sharing device to connect to the internet. Only from the client devices. I don't think you have much understanding of how this works, you may want to read up on it a bit.

So why the WiFi doesn't turn on when I go to settings > internet sharing?

It does turn on. How would internet sharing work if WiFi was off? Internet sharing works via WiFi, after all. Difference is that rather than connecting to a hotspot, the phone is now the hotspot.

Have you really tried on your phone?
On my phone it doesn't turn on.

What I've tried on my phone:
Went to "Settings > Internet sharing" Turned it on
Went to "Settings > WiFi" and checked that WiFi is "Disabled"
Then I asked my friend to connect on my hotspot and he found it.

The WiFi is only turning on when I use the quick settings.

That's why I'm asking it here.

Re: Weird? Internet sharing activates WiFi....

I'm not trying to say that the sharing doesn't work over WiFi.
I'm just asking why it is different using quick settings. Only that.

This is a forum isn't it? So the "it's obvious" really pissed me off.
If I'm asking it here is beacause it isn't obvious for me.

People need to stop being such an *****. If this is not weird just explain. It won't hurt anyone to be polite.

Re: Weird? Internet sharing activates WiFi....

Your WiFi is "turning on" in exactly the same way regardless of how you enable sharing.

If you turn internet sharing on via a a quick setting in your notification centre, WiFi will go blue briefly while sharing is being enabled but will then go dark again and say "Disabled".

If you then look at the WiFi page in settings, WiFi does not in fact say "Disabled" but has the slider set to "Off", and right underneath it it explains, clear as day that "You're sharing your cellular data connection right now. Turning on Wi-Fi networking will stop sharing".

There is no difference whatsoever in what happens to WiFi regardless of whether you enable/disable sharing via the notification centre, or settings. In both cases, doing so is enabling WiFi functionality on your phone (as this is how sharing works) but is enabling your phone as a hotspot rather than a client, meaning WiFi itself is technically on but "WiFi Networking" (ie acting as a client) is off.

All of this is perfectly consistent, and exactly how it should be.

Well, then thanks a lot for the explanation.
It's all I've wanted. =]
