Notification Centre in Windows Phone 8.. New Image... Enough info on the picture.

Not that I am opposed to a Notification Center.

But this is how I think the Notification Center should be applied:

The notifications from the NC Tile should only show notifications from apps that are NOT PINNED to your Start Screen

Not sure I'd agree with that. I think an option to enable/disable whichever apps you choose to show would work better. That way, everyone can pick whichever way suits their tastes.

i think swiping from left is not an option because most apps support swiping from left and will be confusing to the user + there's no way to differentiate the two swipes (from an OS standpoint).

swiping from top is still an option and i hope MS go this route + have a separate tile as well. Remember > this is not the final build and nothing is confirmed yet. I feel like they're still developing WP8.1 and there's plenty of time to implement features.

I can tell by a lot of the comments here that some people would prefer Windows Phone remain at 4% market share. I mean heaven forbid, MS introduce basic smartphone features.

I disagree. I want the CHOICE at least.

ANYONE who doesn't want the Notification Center don't need to use it! Others want, so, please don't impose your thought on people!

I don't think it's the case. I think they just choose WP in the beginning because it was different not another iphone grid of icons and it approached the mobile space from a different perspective. And they still want basic smartphone features to be achieved in a more innovative way. And I don't think WP market share is at 4% because of notification center issue.

I still dont understand why they cannot use the notification centre that is already built into "ME" tile? Yes I understand that at the moment it is a social centre however how hard would it be to log each toast notification that is presented to the phone in this list. Then if the associated app is not already pinned to the start screen the "ME" tile can update and present a count of new notifications, similar to the way it does now and have the specific entry in the ME app highlighted in the accent color as an unread notification.

This way you have one central list which lists all social and app notifications. If the app isnt already pinned to your start screen the tile will update. If you already have the app pinned then that apps tile will update and the ME tile will not and the entry under the ME tile will be white meaning that it has already been read.

Maybe a full blown notification center from day 1 would have had WP at 8% market share instead of 4%. Think about it. Lack of basic smartphone features mean MS is leaving marketshare on the table.

IF MS had implemented the top 10 of those, marketshare would be much higher now.

This is Android 4.3 Quick Settings, I love this feature and Windows Phone & Windows 8 should have it.

But iOS 7 gets it even more right than Android 4.3:

Look at how they combined toggle settings & the current audio playback controls. In Android 4.3, the current audio playback is accessed from the notification shade separate form quick settings.

I really don't get the notification center. Its almost like people are trying to negate the whole live tiles aspect of the os. You don't need to pin every app to he start screen, I sure don't but you add your most used apps you need to be notified by.

The entire operating system works as a notification center and if Microsoft works on live tiles updating automatically instead of periodically, I will be happy.

I hope we don't get something similar to android. Its always annoying using android and the entire row at the top is full of notifications.

Just enhance the live tiles and give us a unique notification center that way

Live tiles and the type of things a notification center captures can be two different things. We need something that captures the push(toast) notifications. Currently nothing does that. If I get an ESPN Scorecenter toast that the Bears scored (Bear down!) and I don't happen to grab my phone for the few seconds it is on the screen, that toast is gone forever.

Same thing applies for third party mail applications like Good Mobile Messaging. If I get a meeting reminder toast, it's gone and lost forever in a few seconds. Again, a notification center would capture that. I don't even allow corporate owned WP's because people would be missing meetings all the time.

A notification center is perfect to capture that line or two of text that comes in a toast.. I don't need, or want to launch a full blown app just to get that info. Live tiles and a notification center can exist together in perfect harmony.

A notification centre and quick settings are two entirely different and unrelated things. Saying you want a notification centre is something completely different from saying you want access to quick settings. I suspect many people clamouring for a notification centre are in reality just asking for quick settings. The two concepts need to be separated for any discussion such as this to make sense. Just because some implementations mash both concepts behind the same UI doesn't mean that is the only way it can be done, or even that it would be the best way of doing it.

I agree with you, we need a way to quickly adjust the most often used settings. I disagree with the unimaginative folk that can't think of a better, more WP oriented solution for notifications, beyond what Android designers have already thought of for them.

looks great, I just want 5 months to past :P to see all these updates hit my lumia 720 :D :D excited :D :D

For those on the damn ATT it will be more like 12 month wait, unless Microsoft stops this bull**** with the carriers blocking OS updates. If anything learn this from Apple.

To me the notification center should be accessible from anywhere in the phone not just the main screen even if it is deep inside the app space (except in full screen app (Games)). So this will be impossible if it is as a tile or a flick left in the start screen (both this case user have to come to start screen).
This leave us with the other options of pulling down from the top (mimicking droid) or do as @mmodimo has suggested in the post.
Wp8 already have a mini notification center which allows interacting with it even if we are in an app or even if the phone is locked. The volume control which pops out when the volume buttons are activated or pressed. Simply extend this to the notification center and everything will be fine even if the screen is locked. Lock button to wake the phone and volume button will get the notification (you can also make it read-only under lock screen) and any one of the volume buttons when the phone is unlocked (definitely clickable/touchable)

Their market share would be 0% because they wouldn't have had it ready by October 2012, and people would be screaming "What's taking Microsoft so long?!"

Well, it's taken Apple six years to finally get it right.

This exemplifies exactly the type of flawed assumption and terminology I was referring to just three posts above yours.

What you are referring to has nothing to do o with a notification centre. If anything, it is related to quick settings. I guess it isn't obvious that volume controls have nothing to do with notifications, but it should be.
