Official "I have the Surface 2" thread

Have my Surface 2...upgraded from Surface RT.

makes it feel slow as molasses. Been comparing the two a bit.

I picked up a 64GB Surface 2 this morning at best buy, so far so good! Much improved performance over the RT.

Just got back with another S2. That side is still not completely flush but much better than what it was before. Hardly noticeable unless I'm zeroing in on it. I'm guessing it's a problem with that particular batch. Otherwise everything is working great!

Hello everyone. I just came from a Microsoft store and picked up my surface 2 and a touch keyboard. I am here right now to test the touch cover, and so far it has minimal error typing, but it auto corrects my typing. I love this!!

Anyone know how to use the gestures??

Hey can everybody please check for updates? Mine finds a whole bunch of updates, I click install, and then it says something along the lines of updates not needed, and then the updates show up again.

Anyone else having sound issues? Mine has cracking sound. But I'm downloading apps while streaming music on xbm

Easy, placing two fingers on any of the letter keys will allow you to glide your fingers back and forth across the keyboard to move the text cursor. The same two finger gesture across the number row selects test, and simply lift your fingers away to delete. Finally, you guess it: two fingers again. Now when it suggests corrections or words for you, you can place two fingers on the spacebar and slide back and forth to select autocorrect options.

Not sure about the Surface 2, but my Surface Pro 2 had 13 updates awaiting it. Makes sense, since Windows 8.1 went live, there probably have been a few updates to help improve things. Obviously, any models already made and sitting on a store shelf can't get the aforementioned updates, so they're waiting for you when you unbox the thing.

Yen it does make sense, but mine won't install, it just says "not needed"

The top isn't completely straight. Guess this one is going back to the store after work.

This kind of manufacturing defect and/or design flaw is completely inexcusable in a premium device like this.

I own a Surface Pro and really like the build quality. I am currently trying to justify the high price of picking up a Surface 2 for my kid for school (over a cheaper, lower quality device), but seeing defects like this makes it difficult....

Got mine yesterday at ms store in charlotte...there were a handful of customers there also buying surfaces. Im coming from surface one and its worth the upgrade...speed, screen, and kickstand!

Haha when I picked up mine, I camped outside my Best Buy 2 hours before we open to make sure I was first in line (I knew we only had 2 of the Surface's I wanted). Apparently nobody else wanted a Surface in my area, I was the only person that bought one that morning lol

my surface 2 had a bunch of updates waiting, including a firmware update, updated with no problems

yeh sorry I forgot to update my comment.

I did finally manage to get the installs going this morning, thanks for the input though!

I must say that I'm pretty concerned seeing all these build quality problems, speakers problems and crashing / instability problems that are popping up in these forums. I am receiving my Surface 2 by UPS today. I will see how it goes.

Now, instability problems can be fixed by updates. Speakers problems too I guess, unless they put cheaper ones in the Surface 2. But build quality problems, I don't like that at all...

I will make sure to inspect the device from all angles when I get it.
