Guys I would like a chance at a review before someone is banned. If it is an urgent mater take care of it but if it can wait let me know what you are doing and why you think a ban is needed.

All I saw was that "Tato Nano" was considered offensive to some Indians, and he was targeting Indians, that to me meant he was being discriminatory, and you'd collared him for another post about it, so that was my justification for hitting the big red button. Perhaps, in retrospect, I was a little too hasty, but discrimination isn't something we stand for here.

Anyways, to follow on from this, I have sent a Skype message to Dave to receive some guidance on this. Sure, we all make mistakes, but for something like this, I want to make sure I'm hitting it correctly. I was stone cold sober, I wasn't tired (still the case for both even now) so I was in a state of full functioning. But it does look like I may have moved a bit quickly.

I was just throwing in what I heard about the Tato Nano from a friend to be used in the discussion. I'll be sure to put a disclaimer next time.

Why don't you do a little more investigating? Check his IP, email, check and google his username. He may be banned at a dozen other sites for doing the same thing.

Like here's a operauser that has a porn page listed as his homepage: http://blucoders.net/forum/member.php?action=profile&uid=417
Here's one with a xda account. What did he post over there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=5126900
Is it the same person? I don't know yet, there a lot to investigate here.

He has 4 IP's listed. are any bad? Do they match to anyone else?

I looked. The IP addresses only show one user. Plus, I don't think it would be fair to ban someone for what they've done at other forums outside of Mobile Nations.

Lets be supportive of Daniel here. We need to help him gather the information and we can give our opinions but he needs to make the decision if the ban will be lifted.

The guy sounds like a smart *** to me who will probably be banned in the end. We need to check and make sure its not the same Indonesian guy that was attacking everyone before. His post content sounds vaguely familiar.

He's from Estonia according to the ip address. From reading his posts, it's hard to tell if he's an offbeat poster, or if there's a language problem. Or just a problem!

You shouldn't preemptive ban someone because what if he's an a-hole on another site. Nor should you start assigning crimes to him. He clearly isn't going to win any humanitarian awards but don't make the claim that he's a criminal until you have some real proof. Furthermore, we shouldn't e-stalk individuals either. We're here to enforce our rules, not pass judgement because what if he's the same dude that looks at porn on another site. We have rules in place to quickly deal with someone if they cause trouble here (or Mobile Nations in general). But running a bunch of what if scenarios isn't what we shouldn't be doing.

And like I said, I'm okay with whatever decision Daniel/Dave wants to make. The dude made one racist comment and another questionable comment. That's on him if he gets the perma-ban hammer. But I'm not going to let my decision making be ruled by paranoia.

I think the point palandri was trying to make is that perhaps it's something he's known for, in which case, he's probably not willing to be rehabilitated. Because if he has a name for it, he's probably going to come back and continue making the same smart-a comments and just crawl further up the ladder. And if he's discriminating in his comments, the sooner we get him out, the better. I'll have to do some more investigating after I get chance to eat (I've only eaten an Easter egg ALL DAY), but I'm happy to work with people on this matter.

I'm just saying that it's easier and simpler to follow our guidelines. And if those guidelines need to be adjusted then so be it. But the poster that can't control his mouth doesn't need any help in getting banned. He'll do it just fine on his own.

I don't make preemptive bans based on "what ifs" or paranoia . You missed my point, totally.

Daniel has to decide if he wants to leave the ban or lift it. I agree that we don't ban on what ifs we need the hard evidence to prove our case. In this case Daniel interpreted the evidence at hand to one conclusion its his opinion he can have that. We can provide our views but in the end he has to make up his own mind. This member has just a few posts he started out being insulting. That's never good. Myself I would have issued a written warning on the second post. Then waited to see what the guy does next. This is why we need to work as a group and get some input before banning someone. This is why I need to be involved unless it is urgent to get the ban done.
