Person of interest thread

Network mods may need to have a look here:
http://forums.windowscentral.com/members/****ucommie.htm

This guys username isn't what I would call friendly.
Pretty blatant that this one is unfamiliar with the guidance on MN.
I deleted the 2 posts he had in the forums.

I can PM him if need be.
I banned him locally and passport banned.

Something that inappropriate doesn't need a request to change user name. Just ban.

I'm really surprised that the filters even allowed him to register. The user name showed up uncensored in passport.
That's crazy.

Funny how some of the folks don't even hesitate to spew cusswords.
I'm certainly not innocent myself yet it's interesting how some use absolutely no restraint on a global website.

James has said that if the site that they are promoting isn't directly off-topic then there's not a lot of harm that can come from allowing it. If its blatantly off-topic etc you can call it spam or create a custom self-promotion infraction.

It's a case of where we were completely stamping these things out, James wants to not do that.

Just a quick note for everyone, glossywhite is back posting a lot so its likely just a matter of time before he crosses the line again. Keep an eye out!

^ Didn't we just tell those people to post in app spotlight?

At the moment from what I know our policy is this (and this is the policy being adapted by all MoNa sites):

All MoNa sites will uniformly handle spam, self-promotion and developers in the same way:

Spam - Remove any definite spam that is useless content and has no place here (same policy as always)

Self-promotion - if the post is completely off topic for a forum it should be infracted and handled as we always would do, with a ban. If someone has posted on the boards something that is related to the forum but the poster is new to the boards and requires education as to how to get their post properly supported, we should contact them via PM, delete the post and instruct them how to post on the forums for their specific post in a way that we will support.

Developers - If random developers have joined the forum to post about their app, handle this the same way as normal -- delete the post and PM the developer asking them to join the Developer program and post about their app in the correct section etc.

So let me get this straight. We we are now ok with folks linking traffic to their blogs and get that ad revenue that Windows Central front page could have got?

So in this situation you would delete the post and PM the person instructing them on how they can get their post supported (by emailing James for example) and at a later date it may become a sponsored post.
