Phone upgrades

Hi guys. This is probably a silly question but what the hell, I'm gonna ask it anyway!!! My contract is due for upgrade now, is there a time limit on upgrades? I want to get the 950xl but want to wait a while before I get it. There seems to be some negative feedback from various outlets regarding The phone and I was wondering if it's worth waiting till any potential issues are sorted? I'm in the UK and Carphone warehouse and amazon both stopped selling it.do I take the plunge or wait???
