Well, I always shoot with HDR set to Auto. I have turned off the flash, and choose to focus on the brightest spot.
Sometimes I take several pictures of the same subject and play a little bit with the shutter speed setting. But you have to be careful when you do that because if you change the shutter speed the application will automatically change the ISO setting, and you do not want that. I never shoot with an ISO greater than 200.
