There's been a boatload of new apps this week and alot of them feature push and toast notifications the Facebook update and the Kik app. I haven't been able to get push working for either app. My push works perfectly every time for IM PLUS but nothing else. I went and turned push and toast notifications off for my older apps and still no push for fb and kik I even uninstalled and reinstalled both and still no push. Anybody else having these issues? Can we restart push notifications somehow? I'm considering restarting the whole phone

For u early mango users is there a way in settings to manage ur push and toast notifications instead of going into each app and turning them off/on? I hope they fix this in mango

Sounds like you have contracted the live tile constipation disease. Outside of a dev unlocked phone your only recourse is a hard reset.

As Dagolara noted, your registry is probably clogged with left over entries. Once you have reached this point, some existing apps will continue to provide push/live tiles, but no new entries will be accepted. Further, over time existing apps will occasionally disconnect for no reason, or after a soft reset. When they do disconnect, they won't be able to reconnect. Aside from gaining registry access through dev unlocking, the only solution is a hard reset.

Microsoft has stated that they have corrected a bug that has been causing these leftover entries and it will work itself out with the next update, presumably Mango. But without registry access in mango, even for dev unlocked devices, only time will tell if they got it all. As far as I know, no Live Tile Manager with Mango to let you know which apps (there is a limit of 30 in Mango) are actually registered.

Thing is, it could happen again after a hard reset.

is there any kind of limit on how many times i can redownload apps that i paid for?

No, there is no limit.

What I'm wondering is when you upgrade to Mango, will it automatically clean up the endpoints that shouldn't be there anymore? I'm guessing no, which means you may have to do a hard reset anyway once Mango is installed.

Maybe I don't give MS enough credit though.

I did a hard reset and it worked, luckily I only use very few apps so it wasn't really any trouble.

In Zune, go to settings -> account -> purchase history. You can see anything you've downloaded there.

In theory this could be tested with a Mango loaded phone now right? Just load a handful of working push application and a few known troublesome ones and see if it breaks.

I am wondering the same thing. And as you can't run a reg editor with Mango (yet), no way of confirming. The limit is increased from 15 to 30 push/live tile apps with Mango so the endpoint count might tolerate a larger number. But it could still bite you eventually, say if you get up to 20 p/lt apps, but have 30+ endpoints, because of some pre Mango crap. Of course, withit some kind of p/lt Manager, no way of knowing what's wrong.

Yeah, that's what I am thinking. Can't get my Vista machine to get past the "updatewp.exe is not found" error, so I cant load Mango yet. But evn with it, it could take a couple weeks of loading/unloading p/lt apps, doing numerous soft resets, updates, etc., before drawing any conclusions and even then it would only be an educated guess. Without registry access there is no proof that everything is working properly. I sort of trust that MS fixed it, but they did imply it worked the first time.

You left yourself wide open...

...had trouble remembering the apps i had before...

Do you have a chisel and a stone tablet?

Sorry, I coudn't resist. I too would love to have a good way to just re-download all of the apps that I have previously installed. I have just been keeping a OneNote file synced of things that I won't easily remember, but it is a bit incomplete and outdated. The way I think of it, if it wasn't important enough to me to remember, than it probably isn't important enough to re-download again right away. I am planning on doing a hard reset soon too, and will likely just scrawl down a few notes on one of things that I used last a decade ago in highschool: Paper.

I was wrong

In Zune, go to settings -> account -> purchase history. You can see anything you've downloaded there.

I've known this for awhile, but had always thought it only showed the ones that were DL'd through the Zune. Stupid.

I just double-checked to be certain, and proved myself wrong.

Now I'll end up re-downloading all those apps that I didn't really use much in the first place!
