Question about the camera

Hey Chintan! It's the software that's adding the purple hue. I checked on another 950 XL and a normal 950. I even exchanged my phone and the new one has the same issue.

And yes, I did finally check the raw files and there's no purple hue whatsoever...I will upload more pictures as soon as I get home.

Now, is there any way to let MS now about this? We need an option to tone down that freaking post processing...they have gone too far with it this time :/

Another thing I noticed...the camera module itself makes a click noise when going from viewfinder to photos.
I cannot remember my first 950XL doing this...is that normal?

i know what the problem is.
I have done excessive tests on lumia 950.It's a software issue.
When the exposure is not set high enough...the software try to correct the scene by introducing a lot of post processing.
This results into thiw purple tint in night pics.
Best results for night shots= lowest iso and long exposure(2-3 sec depending on the scene)

As for color, I've been examining my 950XL DNG and I found out that it comes with a really poor profile.
It turns skin tones into monochromatic yellow and seems to have massive problem with blue and purple.
I'll be making a .dcp profile to correct those that can be used in Raw processor program such as adobe lightroom.
Stay tuned. Will post it in the forum to share the file.
I think Lumia tend to saturate colors quite a bit for more "pop" which I think is intentional and make sense for most consumer snapshots. But once in a while it seems to show up as more than subtly incorrect color (e.g. pink dress shown as hot pink) so a DCP profile file would come in handy in post-processing if I want less saturation. (Others might want to just lower the saturation slider setting a bit in your favorite jpg editor.) One thing I'm not sure is whether they apply one color profile to all shots consistently or they adapt it depending on the scene. If the latter is true (unlikely IMO), profiling may not help. Anyway, I'd love to try out your dcp profile if you make one. TIA.

Quick update about the click sound...this seems to be normal as the camera lens is going back a neutral position when it's not being used. I tested this on my other phones and they do make a click noise too but it's very very tiny...only hearable when I put my ear on the camera. The 950XL makes a quite audible noise though...I can hear it about 1m away. Is this something to worry about?

You shouldn't have to worry. My previous phone, 930, did the same.
It was also clicking when turning the flashlight on and off in the Action Center.

I went to the store and they had a normal 950 and a XL on display so I tested both of them and both cameras did the click noise. Seems to be normal or at least common for the 950 line :)

I just post the profile on the other thread with the image comparison of what the original profile color result.
Here's the DCP profile link to download (one drive link).

Never even considered it to be something to worry about on the 950 XL. I came from the 1020 and that thing CLICKs, it is very audible. So when I heard my 950 XL do the same, but a little quieter I just thought it was normal. I also have a LG G4 and that also clicks although very very quietly. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

I also noticed that proshot is SLOW in the 950XL. Might not be optimized for the hardware or something.
It was fine with the Icon and 1520

most of the features of ProShot are standard with the stock camera app anyway on the 950XL.

Proshot doesn't support some api in new 950/950xl phones. Waiting for new proshot version.
