I believe you have to set the genre to "ringtone". Also, can't be over 40 seconds, over 1mb, or have DRM.

These restrictions are for wp 7.x. For 8, only has to be less than 30 Mb, no lenght limit.

I copied some mp3's straight from phones memory card to ringtones and couldn't see them. Had to copy first to computer's hard drive and then to ringtones to get things working.

So all you have to do is put them in the ringtone folder on WP8? No setting the genre either?

Yes. That's all I did. Copied mp3 from my computer into the ringtone folder on the phone.

Hi all

i also faced similar problem Earlier to my LUMIA 520

(The solution] which i found is simple.

Connect Windows Phone 8 to PC with Data cable.
with Windows( 7 or 8 )as operating system .
open Phone in Pc then open Ringtones folder
Just Drag your Audio mp3 Files from PC to the Ring tones folder. (do not try to copy paste)(do not rename after you copy or alter the file which you coped)
That's all it is done...!!!!:smile::wink:

I'd also recommend that in a pinch you can just transfer the full song to the phone and use the Nokia Ringtone Maker, really doesn't get much easier from that!

I do this and it works pretty well,
just drag to the folder (even it says copy),
but you just drag,
it different result if you have to copy paste, it will not show.
But pavan kumar4 ways are work on my lumia 520.
Thx a lot pavan kumar4...

A nice way to make ringtones with ringtone maker from nokia - it let's you use you music from the phone or memory card and you cut it and save via app into your ringtonefolder and so on :)

My nokia lumia 520 downloaded music through pc but wont show up in the songs tab, but i know that the songs are there because when I connect it to my pc the songs show up in the SD card. The files are not corrupted cause I use them for ringtones, they show up in the artist/albums/genre tabs. I also know that the way I downloaded music worked because it was working until 3/23/2014. Pls help I restarted my phone, re-downloaded everything, and changes my storage options.
