SMS Call Filter useless in US

What is the point of the SMS and Call filter on WP8 when I am still getting charged for blocked SMS messages on ATTs go phone plan?

I really hate this US system that the SMS or call recipient gets charged as well, I prefer the way its done in the EU that only the person that initiates the contact has to pay for it. Why the hell should I pay when someone calls or texts me?!

Because you're using the network, don't answer calls then and don't have anyone text you.
If you have a landline you get charged
not only when it's in use but also when it's not in use, there is monthly charge.
Why should a cell phone be any different ?
In Europe you pay a monthly fee to watch TV and this was even before cable or SAT and you pay a licensing fee just to listen to the radio.
It's just the way things work

In italy we don't pay any monthly fee to watch tv. We pay only an annual fee for the tv possession (regardless you use it or not) which is a government tax (and to be honest, not everybody pays it :winktongue:)
About mobiles, generally, we don't pay any flat fee: we only pay what we consume. And nobody pay anything when is receiving.

I agree with you John20212, it makes no sense to pay when you receive something. It's out of your control, so you shouldn't be charged.

With calls its easy enough not to answer unknown numbers, but you can't stop spam texts. I was hoping the block SMS feature would work to completely block the texts from comming to your device and not just putting the text in a so called spam folder, but still charging you for receiving it.
Now I am thinking of getting a new sim from ATT, because its complete bull**** that I should pay when some scumbag telemarketer sends me a spam text that costs me 20cent a pop on Go Phone.

I have a pay as you go sims in UK, Sweden, and few other EU states and in none of them are you charged for receiving calls and texts. I am surprised people in the US tolarate this system of paying for something you can't control.

As for TV, landline and other services, not sure what you are getting at as they are completely different services to pay as you go mobile plans where there are no monthly charges/plans (at least on the ATT pay per use plan, not the monthly Go plans they have; and none of my EU pay as you go sims have monthly charges and e.g. 10gbp credit in UK can last me over a year since I mostly only use it to receive calls).

There are unlimited text so I don't get the point for as little as $20 added onto a cell phone plan.

If you want full coverage than pay for it. If not you have to pay for each text and call. Nothing in the world is free.

I never pay for a monthly mobile plan for my private line. Just don't need it and if I need to call someone I use Skype. And $20 a month is not little, not everyone has unlimited amount of cash.

I am perfectly happy paying for each call and text since I don't make a lot of them on my private line, what I am NOT happy with is paying when someone else sends me a spam text. I don't get what's so controvertial and hard to understand about that.

$240/year for something that cost the carriers close to nothing is the biggest rip off in the history of the planet.

you should contact AT&T about spam. they will block that number and reimburse you

How much spam messages are you getting. I have rarely had spam messages. If I did get one there is way to opt our usually.

Dafuq are they smoking over there? I thought we were getting ripped a new one, but paying to receive calls and texts is just wtf.

Just amused to see how people got so used to being ripped off that they start to defend it. Charging receiver is like charging both sides for postal service.
